You got your TCG in my MMO...

Posted today, an article on

Kotaku

Discusses a viable money maker for Sony..and no matter how "Evil" anyone thinks Sony is, this move was phenomenal.

The trading card genre has been a major avenue of funds for MtG, WoW, White Wolf...and now we have a Virtual TCG ready to play as long as you have a Station account name (don't even have to pay for initial access)

The game is visually appealing..uses a lot of sounds and actions from EQ, and playable with others...including trading cards or even selling for real cash...

If more MMO's could find ways to differentiate themselves, they could also have value. With a stale MMO market at this time, here is a way to wake up those old players and bring new one's in.

How do YOU feel about the TCG? Let me know...sound off in comments below.

    • I started to check it out the other night, but I was tired and I realized at some point during the tutorial that I was too tired to really absorbany information. I will definitely be checking it out better though. It looks like it might be fun. It seems a little complicated... but so is M:TG. As a fan of EQ1 and EQ2, it's got potential to draw me in, for sure, as long as it is actually fun to play.

The reaction I've seen from people I know still playing EQ1 is that their sole interest in it is that there are in-game items you can get. Otherwise, they aren't moved. They may yet warm to the idea, though.

I think that it is a good idea as a money maker, too. As with the real world equivalent games, you can spend as much or as little as you want, and it's likely they'll snag some people with a fair amount of disposal income to spend.

This is actually not SOE's first virtual card game product-- they have Pirates (as in the constructible card game... I think I like the real world version better. It has little boats!) and I believe they also have a Stargate-themed game of the same sort as well. I'd go look to confirm, but all their services are currently down while they do an upgrade.

    • I'm planning a detailed post on this myself, but as for your question: How do I feel?....

I reactivated my EQ2 account in order to play the TCG better and hopefully see some card drops in game :)
