"It''s OK... I''m a leaf on the wind! Watch how I soar!"

Sad news in the gaming industry and the MMORPG genre particularly as Games Workshop and Climax Development Limited decided to end development on their MMORPG Warhammer Online:

It is with a great deal of sadness that I have to inform the community that we have decided to discontinue the development of Warhammer Online and will be closing down this website with immediate effect.

This has been a difficult and painful decision but it was taken following a following a full review of the progress of the game, costs to date and future costs of the project. As a result both Games Workshop and Climax Development Limited, the computer games developer, have agreed to terminate the development project.

I would like to say a personal thanks to all of the people who have followed our development over the last few years, your constant support and enthusiasm has meant a great deal to us.

When I pee in your soup, it does not sour

Not surprised, saw the game over a year ago and was said to be soon going into beta. GFX were outdated and rarely ever heard any updates from the devs.

I agree with numatic, the project has taken such a long time, and progress has been very slow - from when it was first announced to about 4 months ago, there was little to no updates about the game. But, recently, I've noticed the increase in updates from the WO team.

I'm not a Warhammer fan, but the game did have a lot of potential, but I guess, there just isn't the right situation for a game like this to be profitable...

For your information, the graphics were some of the best, almost up there with Everquest2. I think they just realized there was too much competition in the market and they weren't going to make all there money back.

Aye, graphics were top class, and the game promised to be damned good, but as you say, it seems they went over budget or something the like. A pity for all the fans.

Its truly a shame when any game with real potential is cancelled for lack of funds.  how some of the games that are still out there with no plot and no innovation manage to be so well funded strike me as truly unfair

I was a fan of WO, posted in their forums and I created fan art for it. Warhammer onlines darker more mature approach to the genre appealed to me. I feel very sad to hear that it won't see the light of day...ever.

Rest in peace, it as a  beautiful dream.

Now it is only Face of mankind for me, if it is buried, I won't be playing any mmorpg in a long time.

Truly a great shame.  This had the potential of being one of the best MMORPGs for role playing.  Based on their old wathammer RPG it would have been a worthy contender.  The setting was great, dark, mysterious, yet somehow familiar.

Lets hope the new WFRPG soon to be released will do it justice.
