tbh auto attack would ruin the game... and for ppl with lag spikes/bad connections... well lag spike will hit us all but the bad connection, well get better connection (i know its not some thing every one has as an option but funcom cant kill their combat system just because a few ppl have a crappy connection)...

when this is said i would allso point out that the combat system is the thing im looking most forward to in this game  ofc the rest is imba but the combat system imo looks imba imba

Too weird to live, and too rare to die

Age of Conan will definitely live or die by its combat system, as it is a central feature and one that touches virtually all gameplay elements, and certainly all players.

A lot of things in an MMORPG can be pretty bad without the game itself failing, but combat is not one of them. I am confident that if players find it tedious, cumbersome, or difficult, they will not be very forgiving.

This is why I believe Funcom has spent so much time revising it and making sure it works properly. I would not be surprised if in these last 15 weeks or so, much of the resources will be spent on it, and it would be a wise move.

The plus side is that if combat works well, this MMORPG will be the one for action/arcade fans who like truly active combat, which is perhaps a demographic that is fairly untouched.

Well the new combat system isn't the only new thing in AoC, so you can't say it will fail because of that if you can't handle that kind of system.

Funcom has taken A LOT of big steps in all categories:
-Player-owned cities

-mounted combat

-Siege combat

-No-target combat

-very special character creation & development

I'm sure I haven't said everything new now, but just these things makes AoC a very special game, and unlike Lotro, this game will last a long time because of all the new stuff.

You know, WoW & Lotro took almost everything from other MMO's. No, to you who thinks WoW was the first MMO (I know many thinks that) its NOT, absolutely not the first MMO. Though it came out in a perfect time. When many new generations that had never played other MMO's grew up.

So, I don't think it will fail at all :)

To live free is worth dying for.

AoC is going to fail because of Latency related problems and their much vaunted combat system is going to be forced to change to deal with it.

Let's face it, when the game goes live, and you have thousands of people on the same server the system will clog.  That's just MMO's.  Now throw in this more "FPS/Arcade" action oriented combat system... I just do not believe it's going to survive past the 6 month mark without being retooled.

Call me a pessimist.  I am, I know it.  I'm cynical about such claims.  It's the same reason I quit playing PS and WWII OL.  Things were great till latency bit you in the rear.  Works great until....

I just have no faith in the system (not Funcom persay) in the internet to deliver this kind of product.  I believe it's going to be a smastastic flop.

Shame too really, because innovation = awesome, I'm all for innovation.  I just don't see this working.

Well, if it gets too many on a server they would probably lower the accepted amount and make new servers...

I honestly got rather worried watching the visual FAQ that was posted my AmazingAvery.

First off I really like most parts of what I've seen and read about AoC and will definately give it a try but in the video it seems very hard to actually face the enemy and still be close enough to attack even without any connection/lag issues.

Am I right assuming that commands like /stick and /face won't be in the game then considering that this is part of what shall make combat 'harder' and different from MMOs in which you just have to hit key combos?

As far as I know, yes, such commands will not be supported (though don't quote me on that).

As for the video, well, the video is "old" in comparison to what we've seen from the Oslo-Event for example. I wouldn't put too much stock in it when trying to guess at the actual combat as it will be in game. Of course, it was a great video, but it is by now more or less outdated (not content-wise, but state-of-the-game-wise).

FC has said that even with a Latency of 500ms, playing the game will be no problem and honestly, at those kinds of latency's, you usually started to have problems with other games, too. I wouldn't worry too much yet. As many people say, the system is new and it will have to prove itself. I am guessing that there will be those who enjoy this kind of combat-system, and those who don't. A matter of taste.

Technically, I am not going to worry until I've actually played it myself. As for the starting area lag for the day of release...well seriously, that's no way to judge a game. Release-Day starting area lag is normal by today. Anyone remember the first days of WoW? *smirk*
