Well in many respects they are very similar. Graphics I'm going to give to EQ2.. I guess that could be a personal choice or appeal thing.. but from me I'll say EQ2. They both have similar quests... lotr has scripted stories that are written around your character. Even tho after so many characters it would seem generic... when you first play it gives more atmosphere. Storyline.. I'd give to lotro. Content I'd give to EQ2. gameplay.. adventure.. could be a toss up. The end game for EQ2 is pretty much raiding, farming or decorating your house. End game lotro is.. is the player monster pvp thing, farming or decorating your house. EQ2 would have more classes.. but I always thought lore master in lotro was pretty cool. That said I still play EQ2 and don't play lotro... but either game can be good. It would depend on what you are looking for. As in if you want to raid... I'd say EQ2. (as an example).

| "We already have two operating MMOs. We launched a game called Ultima Online in 1997. It's still got hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Then there's Dark Age of Camelot, we also have a situation where we have well over 100,000 subscribers." -Frank Gibeau of Electronic Arts. Does it seem odd that UO has more subscribers than the best RvR game on the market? |

LOTRO is by far better. Better graphics, gameplay, and *drumroll* customer service! |

graphics are hands-down better in lotro. eq2's graphics were nice when it first came out but they are sorely outdated compared to most mmo's today. storyline is better in lotro because it actually has a story. gameplay is really a matter of the user's opinion, personally I enjoy lotro better, i have a maxed out wizard in eq2 and it's really just not fun to play.
while eq2 has more content, the quality of lotro's content is much better.
it all boils down to personal preference, but preference aside, no matter which style you like, you have to admit that lotro's graphics are better. I can't even fathom someone saying that eq2 looks better lol. |

That would be EQ2... I left LOTRO for EQ2...and have never been happier.. Try the trials...you would be better off knowing by playing than asking here, as we just have opinions based on what we think is good. I for example prefer less boredom and more control of my visuals and UI... Later |

I prefer EQ2 over LOTRO, yeah there's a grand storyline, but I still prefer reading the books for that. I also like the variety of areas in EQ2. None of the character classes in LOTRO really spoke to me, so I didn't find it very fun. Community is about the same in both games. |

I think it will come down to personal preference more than anything. You need to do the trials. Both are solid games, fanboy rants on both sides to the contrary. Unless of course all you want to do is craft. EQ II has a deeper crafting system, and it's much easier to turn a profit in it. If you want to play "I am a carpenter, the MMO" go with EQ II. Otherwise do the trials. See how they run on your PC, and see which aesthetic you prefer. I personally find the lack of polish, amateurish writing, and bland poorly optimized graphics in EQ II jarring. But your mileage may vary.

| I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us. |

LOTRO vs EQ2...hmm well both games are very similar altho EQ2 has a more realistic graphics while LOTRO has a more cartoonish graphic style .. the debate here is.. it depends on your taste some people like cartoonish graphics while some like realism. EQ2 crafting is deeper than LOTRO crafting tho as it involves a whack-a-mole like mini-game tho.. EQ2 has separate levels for crafting and requires grinding... rare ingredients can be used to make more powerful items... same as LOTRO. |

Eq 2 looks neat , but it looks like a big shiny turd ?
I tried eq 2 trial for about 2 minutes, the graphics are so dated and the game play was very jerky. The water looked kind of silly cause it was like something out iof a korean f2p game. The texture resolutions was so low it actually hurt my eyes as well. Lord of the Rings online seemed to all fit , graphics, the story and the game play. It all works , it never bolstered to be anything but what it is , a fun and enjoyable family game,as well as having crispy clean high resolution texture that don't hurt my eyes. If you like battleing things that look like big turds, then maybe Eq2 is for you, I personally like battling things I have some connection to ,be it a story line or visual recognition. |
