"Who watches the Watchmen?" |
So, I've been looking at this game, but there are a few things I don't get:
-For one, will the game be a seamless world(like Lineage 2 and to an extent, World of Warcraft), or will it be broken up into loading zones(like Final Fantasy XI and EverQuest II)? -Also, how much of the game will be instanced? Will it have no instances at all(Lineage 2), only some(WoW), or pretty much on everything(Guild Wars)? Also, not related to the topic: -How does this whole RvR thing work? Will a Human player be able to attack a Greenskin, or a Chaos character a High Elf? Or will it be restricted to rival armies? -Will there be open world PvP or will there only be PvP in the designated PvP areas? Thanks for any and all responses and I can't wait for this to come out, |

For Great....what were we talking about? Ooo...a shiney. |
1. Not sure about the world yet, but I would assume it will be a seamless one much in the way of DAoC.
2. Parts will be instanced, but no one knows how much since it still has about a year of development left. 3. RvR stands for Realm versus Realm. You fight against the other team. Chaos, Greenskins and Dark Elves are all one team. Empire, Dwarves and High Elves are a team. These teams can join the same party and guild, they will be able to fight any of the other team's races. Give DAoC a look over if you want to see more of what RvR is exactly. 4. There will be world PvP but it will be on the common battle lines of the regions. You won't be able to go to noob areas and harass them. |

Playing: LOTR/Rakion/DAoC Waiting: WAR |
To and on to number 4 as you go though higher regions the PvE gets less and less as the RvR part grows more and more so as your lvling through regions you will start to see less PvE and more PvE.

The WAS seamless. In my flying tour of the starting zone, I was able to go from dwarven starting camp to the Ork stronghold in the swamps. No loading. That was long ago and they have new zone designs now. I am guessing from what happened in daoc though, you can take mass transit(orkish catipult, chaos gate, dwarven barrel over the water falls) to the other wars (loading) but each of the 3 wars will be wide open and you can walk anyplace you want to in all 4 tiers. as far as are there instances. thats the only thing that I wasnt so happy about. I had hoped that the entire game would be non instanced save for the epic zones and the capital city. They will have instanced pvp and battle grounds for each tier. so in short Will there be instances? Answer:Yes will you be able to lock yourself in a sealed dungeon and have content all to yourself without having to worry about anyone else comming in and killing you so you can get all the crazy loot for yourself? Answer:NO How does RvR work? let me put it in wow teams because thats all most people can understand these days. Imagine you start out as a nightelf(Empire) And you are in durnassas. I play an Orc (Chaos) and start out in The barrens. We will fight over ashenvale until I (chaos) wins. we cut down all your trees burn all the wood and eat all the pretty blue shrubs, and push you back to Durnassas and fight over that too(only its connected by land and theres no water). Now my guildmate is playing as a Forsaken (darkelf) and starts in undercity. He is fighting against one of your guildmates who is Human (high elf) and starts in hillsbrad. They are both fighting over silverpine forest. I call my guildmate and tell him to stop fighting the "silly humies" and come help me ransack Durnassas. He then takes mass transit and comes to the barrens and then walks through silverpine forest and into durnassas to group with me and we both kill night elves (dwarves) together and gain XP. After we take durnassas and toss eggs on the Boss put him in chains put a kick me sign on his back and bring him back to the barrens for torture. got it? |

Isnt it a little too early to make such assumptions? From what has been alluded to we can gather that it is more than probable that there will be some form of PvE dungeons that do segregate you from the rest of the players. I could be wrong you could be right, but I dont believe this has actually been specified and with the recent delay announced they could be looking to expand on certain features. While certainly not as common as in World of Warcraft I would be surprised to find one or two instances that allow you to just enjoy a romp through a dungeon with some friends, guildmates, etc. Originally posted by kraiden
My take on it is this. You go about PvP as you would. However your winning or losing determines control of land, cities, etc. The idea is that PvP makes the world respond to what you are doing in terms of conflict. So to give an example based on World of Warcraft you could take control of certain zones depending on your world PvP (whether, solo, teams, guild, etc). The number of instances in the game has been rumoured to be somewhere around the number found in World of Warcraft although a mayority of them will be context sensitive and used as PvP battlegrounds. |

Didn't want to create a whole new topic, is the game world seamless or is it zoned like EQ? I know some of the pvp is instanced but I wasn't sure if there was zone walls for each tier, city etc. I know the game is still in beta just wanted to know if they have said how the game is layed out yet. |

Why So Serious? |
Its a seamless world except for the RvR Scenarios areas for each Teir (there is still an Open RvR area and lots of other Open Area goodies like Keeps have been added as well) and some dungeons. Dungeons haven't been thoroughly discussed but I assume they're instanced and there's not many of them since this game isn' t a dungeon focused game. There are several different types of areas but its all seamless except for the two noted above and quite possibly 1 part of the siege could be instance really dont know at this time since its changed a couple of times. |
