The enemy is so dumb! They believe that WE are the enemy! - A famous orc commander. |
Most peoples are simple folks. They want to have a good time. They hardly cares about $15 a month, as long as they have fun. These devs, they figure...eh, let's provide them options. So they come with ideas and concepts to make us play longer.
But, we are simple folks. We like simple gameplays, and simple fun. PvP? Not really. RvR? Even less! Raiding? Nope. Tradeskills? Not really.
So these devs...they where angry. They think about all these "cools" gameplays. So, they figure, well, let's give better rewards in OUR new gameplays. The results was, that everyone was a better grouper/soloer, then someone who solo/group. So if you want to group efficiently (every grouper want that), you have to Raid/PvP/RvR!
Then, simple players figure...eh, wth...let's give it a try. And they really try this raiding. But then, some nasty and power hungry player start bitching and requiring nonsense. So they stop raiding. They try to PvP, but always losing is not fun. They try to RvR, but, again, losing is not fun. So they went back to grouping/soloing.
Now, these dirty players which chase them from these new gameplays, they come in the grouping game, with better stats, and start trash talking and been rude because they where the l33t. So, the players quit this grouping/soloing game.
Silly, ain't it? But all these MMOs except 1 are doing this and planning to do this. Main gameplay: always grouping in PvE. Main rewards: always something silly and painfull. They would have soo much more success if they would focus on making players happy, instead of FORCING a foreign gameplay on peoples who just want to have fun with the game. The CORE players, they just want a cool grouping/soloing game, don't force them to anything else with better rewards, make sure they have everything they want in that grouping/soloing, at least on a server or for a race. |

Not really. ------------------------------- Sounds to me like what you wanna play is a game like Dungeon Runners... all you got there is PvE,its simple and fun. Maybe too simple. Maybe the variety of options is really what is needed. If you have played for many years, you want to step away from WoW. If you are new, maybe WoW is enough for you.

The journey is all that matter. The path of progression is what determine the journey. If that path ask to do something, you either do it...or stop playing.
Remember, simple peoples, they want to solo/group. If you put better rewards in PvP/Raiding/RvR...they will go there...and be unhappy. Unhappy peoples in entertainment = massive lost revenues. What they want? Simple...more grouping/soloing. Regular feedback and having a clear goal/purpose is also very important (levels/gears upgrade).
Simple is not stupid. CoX understands that point pretty well and...if it was not for the constant changing of all rules, which confuse/outrage/panic the playerbase, it would prolly be doing a lot better than their amazing succeess. |

I wonder why PvP has to be so much more difficult than PvE. It seems like the game's mechanics are either too complex or too easily manipulated for core players to enjoy, so that's where the design failure is. Why does PvP / RvR and Raiding have to be such a huge deal? Can't somebody just streamline it to make it more casual-friendly and integrated into the game? As it is, these current games are made in loose layers rather than one solid chunk, so PvE and PvP are two entirely different things rather than one seamless "competition activity". Which is stupid.
Why hasn't anyone discussed this?
By creating an MMORPG that's "pure PvE", it's taking a huge step backwards in development progression. PvP is a 'feature', that if removed, would only make the game less popular and thus less of a financial success. In your case, Anofalye, I would suggest Tabula Rasa. It has a simple rule set and no end game or PvP, so it's a 'Zen' grind all the way through to the max level... nothing but solo and grouping. I'm joking. I wouldn't suggest that heap of rubbish to anyone. My point is that an exclusively PvE game has already been done, and it's a failure. |

All that begins must ends, but the end of one thing is the start of another... |
Every game has a freaking learning curve, but noobs think they are so much better than the rest they deserve to earn all the prizes. That's not how it works, in any competitive environment, there will be people ahead of you. If a player who isn't willing to make the effort, can be as successful as another one who is a lot better (or has more experience), something is wrong. As always, there can be balance issues, but ultimately people need to realize that online gaming is pretty much like any real social environment, the same rules apply. If you want to have you own fun, without being pissed off by others, play a solo game seriously. How do you define happiness ? How can a designer make a perfect game for everyone ? You are making generic arguments while it seems obvious that you are biased, maybe because of a bad experience. As far as the hardcore / simple player goes, I can only give one advice : get better. That's how life is : adapt, copy the best, train hard, and you will start to win and have fun. Howerwise, recognize people who are worth to spend time with. If you can find nice people to play with, I'm sure you will have tons of fun. In the end, don't blame others. Instead, recognize that the game you are playing (people you are playing with) isn't what you are looking for. In almost every game, you have a progression. If the rewards don't drive you and the gameplay isn't interesting, leave already. There are so much simple, brainless games out there that I can't help but wondering what you are moaning about... sorry. "make sure they have everything they want in that grouping/soloing". What do they want ? I think the right question would be : what do you want ? It sounds too much like a frustrated children. |
