Well, some folks remember the fiasco that was AC2, especially the part about shutting the game down shortly after they took everyones money for a paid expansion. As for DDO, what is revered by many as the greatest of gaming IP's turned out to be a total miss in terms of what they were looking for in a DD game and their understandably bitter because the franchise is lost for years until DDO dies. Now we get LotRO. Its a decent game, I'll grant you that, but it disappoints those who were hoping to see the game released in its original incarnation (more of a Middle earth sandbox-type simulator) before Turbine got the license. Also, some players were really hoping to fight for Sauron (PVP) against the forces of good and of course, LotRO isn't that. Finally, Turbine decided to develop the game borrowing heavily from some of WOW's design concepts (specifically the heavy, quest based leveling system) which some folks love, and of course, some folks hate.

i surely dont hate turbine. I loved ac2, and have yet to see a game with a better storyline, and story development. And i dont blame them for shutting down ac2, because i cant blame them, because to few people played it (a few k subs in the end), they are a company after all. Now a company i hate is SoE... all the subs got knocked out and awoke up in a gun sellers apartment, tired to a chair, with a guy called Zed and a gimp standing in front of us, with a scary smirk on this faces... Personally, I love Turbine. Not only have they given me a game that breaks most of the molds out there in DDO with it's combat system, character development, and real quests...but they keep giving me free stuff too. So much free stuff, that my game is now well more than twice it's original size...without charging me anything for those expansions. AND they've done that for a game that is probably considered "under performing", although I think it's much healthier now. |

Turbine hasn't made a good game since AC. DDO isn't as bad as some but it wasn't all that interesting either. They had an excellant system from AD&D to build on and an infinite ammount of resources in the way of story, art, quests etc... and they failed to deliver. That said I will never hate Turbine just because of a few flops or lackluster games but just like SoE I won't buy one of their games without some serious beta time. Simple fact is that we can't trust any of the game developers today to deliver on what they promise and if it's not in and playable during open beta we can't expect to see it at release or ever in some cases. |
