Death is a disease, and I will cure it

Hello fellow gamers!

After trying almost all of the "top-ranked" mmorpgs out there I have now finally come to Vanguard. At this very moment Im on the way with the digital download, another 9 hours to go.

The games I prefered most so far is the classic Anarchy Online and Lineage II. But now Im tired of them for different reasons and I hope Vanguard will be the game for me.

What I whant with this post is to get some good advice for a newcommer. As I said I have long experience from mmorpg but not from Vanguard. I will list some questions that I would really appreciate if u wanna answer:

1. Is there a class in Vanguard who is outstanding from all others (most game have these classes, use to be nukers and archers).

2. What would be a good class for me? I like melee and I love dps. But at same time I wanna be able to take some beating. Also good for solo would be nice.

3. How is the economy? Can you farm money for that great armor set or weapon without spending a year ingame? How is the loot, does it drop much usefull stuff like gear?

4. Is there a clan-system in Vanguard? I figured there is 3 different "alliances", but are there also clans?

5. What do u think makes Vanguard unique from other mmorpg´s?

6. Last....is it possible to solo this game till top lvl? Is it easy to find ppl to party with? Population in game?

Thanx for the answers guys! I hope to see many of u ingame as soon as my game is downloaded, hehe.

Thanx for your time and help!

Any class that heals or kites is overpowered.

2. What would be a good class for me? I like melee and I love dps. But at same time I wanna be able to take some beating. Also good for solo would be nice.

Dread Knight, Tuurgin Shaman or Disciple. None of these are considered melee DPS classes, but each of them covers all 4 categories you listed exceptionally well. Many classes will be better DPS but less durable and vice-versa.

3. How is the economy? Can you farm money for that great armor set or weapon without spending a year ingame? How is the loot, does it drop much usefull stuff like gear?

You will be able to quest for gear or start harvesting early to make money if you don't want to craft.

4. Is there a clan-system in Vanguard? I figured there is 3 different "alliances", but are there also clans?

There are player guilds if that's what you're talking about. The "KoS" faction component was removed from NPCs a while back. There is no team PvP either.

5. What do u think makes Vanguard unique from other mmorpg´s?

Classes and combat mechanic. If/when alternate advancement gets developed VG will have the best classes of any game I've ever played.

6. Last....is it possible to solo this game till top lvl? Is it easy to find ppl to party with? Population in game?

Yes you can solo to level cap. Don't know about current population. It wasn't too bad during the holidays in the 25-50 range (dunno about 1-25 though).

I'll give you my opinion on some of your questions.

1. Thats really tough.  I kinda think some of the more unique classes or classes with specializations are interesting.  Clerics, Monks, Shaman all have specializations that make them kinda unique.  Rogues learn to make potions and devices that let them do some neat things.  Necros are really good at soloing and can have several pets but there main one is a perminent pet which is upgradable with items you harvest.  Druids will be very cool after GU4.  I think there are a lot of very neat classes in VG.  Soloing you would think of Necros, shaman, kiting druids, rangers, fear kiting maybe a dread knight.

2. really hard to say you would want to try some.  Monks are good dps and good solo esp since they can FD, rangers can kite so they are also good solo and good dps.  Bards solo well and are kinda cool since they can create their songs from components allowing you great flexibility.

3. You can farm to make money but it might be even better to harvest to gather resources.

4. there are guilds if that is what you mean.  If you are thinking for PvP or RvR type things there are not currently any Realms.  On the PvP server it is open PvP where you can kill anyone.

5. I think the number of unique classes and unique starting areas is one thing that makes VG unique.  Also the combat system I think is outstanding.  Diplomacy is unique to VG.  Crafting in VG is also an exceptionally well designed system.  Finally VG is really really broad with many many different aspects, great dungeons, mounts, flying mounts, boats, housing and even more I'm no doubt missing.  VG really has everything and more that other games have.

6. Yes you can solo from lvl 1 to 50.  There are a good number of quests all over the world.  There is a good LFG system so you can find people pretty easily.  Like all games setting up a group might take a bit but no worse then any other game.  The biggest challenge is the world is really large and with the huge number of starting areas you will feel like there's nobody around when you start.  This isn't however the case and as you level you get funneled into more popular areas where you start encountering more people.  Today this is probably in your 20s.  After GU4 goes live it will be lvl 10 because of the rift system which will enable you around level 10 to use the rift to teleport to other areas where there is similar level content all over the world.

Populations are increasing in VG so I think as long as they keep improving and word gets out people are coming back or trying it for the first time and finding it is really good.  If they ever do a trial island and a relaunch I'm sure they will do quite well.

Death is a disease, and I will cure it

Thanx for your info and ideas guys!

So far I think Vanguard is a real good game and very underestimated. So far I also think its pretty much similair to EQ2. but maybe that will change when I start diplomacy and crafting.

I figured I start easy till I figure the game out and get more experience.....so I made an Orc Warrior.

Maybe see ya soon ingame, have fun folks!

It's nothing like EQ2. It's supperior in just about every way except performance and it took a year for EQ2 to perform as well as it does.
