okay so i took a peek at the Most voted games at the frontpage and saw 2 games - Shadow of Legend and Godswar Online with high ratings, i took a look at the hyping there.. needless to say many ppl already saw the false hyping at Shadow of Legend but also at Godswar Online when u look at the last 10 ppl with comments (excluding me) they all have created accounts since 12 march 2008 and have a post count of 0, 1 or hell maybe even a staggering 2 posts at these boards. i would suggest to remove hyping, not completely, but just block it at certain games (if this is possible) where companies/fanboys create high hypes to attract some players, its just sad and unwanted

If they're going to remove hype then they would have to do it for all games, otherwise it's unfair and it's up for debate which games actually have good/bad hype as opposed to having a couple of fanboys/haters
They could use a hype system based solely on the opinions of actual critics/reviewers/admins/mods/etc |

Originally posted by 3on1I have seen what you are saying, but I don't think you can block hyping on certain games becasue then you get into a judgement call which might hurt the innocent. Let say a game is coming out and someone posts that every one who is looking forward to that game should come to MMORPG, create a login and hype it. Is there really anything wrong with that? What MMORPG should do is raise how many post you have before you can hype and also look a little closer for people that create multiple logins. Hell in order to hype or review you must have a rating of 100, I think it is 100, and you get your rating up just by being logged into the site so it isn't hard to get to where you can leave a hype. |

MMORPG Character Monuments ...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest... |
Obviously the hype level is a poor estimate. fact is, I wager its very hard to quantify 'HYPE' in a MMORPG. IN the end, HYPE is measured by "What upcoming game do you plan to play". To measure it based on the number of posts on a game over a defined period of time will falsly inflate the numbers. POsts could be negative, or 10 posts made by the same player under 10 different names. As with websites, content is key. Its not that a group of players are excited about any game but why. What is it about the upcoming games that makes them want to go out and spend $50 and invest. Understand, for the majority of MMORPG players, A characters power and influence (within a guild) are directly proportional to the amount of time they spend playing that game. Most players generally are able to only play 1 - 2 games at a time. As such, These games follow the 0 sum rule. If you start playing and create a new character on a new MMORPG, the characters on the old MMORPG suffer. It is for this reason (along with others) that players stay for months and years on a game. To truely have a large HYPE for an upcoming game implies that there is a significant loss of interest in the current existing games. Torrential |

The hype should be weighted against brand new members to limit the effect fake registrations has. |

One thing you have to remember, just because you dont like a game doesnt mean it will suck. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. With that said, I think the hype meter is just fine. If you think a game sucks then vote likewise. |

Originally posted by Enigma Enigma is totally right about this. Hype rating doesn't = a game's score/rating. Its just a rough gauge of how popular an UNRELEASED game is in the marketplace. The most hyped games are obviously going to be on the top of the list rightfully so, even IF a certain amount of "fraudulent" hyping is going on. Besides. MMORPG has its own rating scale which you can check out here .
At least, I *think* the hype rating only applies to unreleased games. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. |
