I Fight for the Hand, I''ll die for the hand.

Hey all, I plan on trying the trial again, and possibly buying the game when i give it a good chance this time around. Eve looks like it has a good in dept storyline to it and I applaude the fact that people have called it a mature mmo.

Last time  i played i didnt do too well(probally cause i went in head first) so i plan on reading the tuts and all. But do any of you long time players have any starting tips.

Three starting tips:

1. Do the tutorial.

2. If you are not sure you understood every word in a tutorial section, do it again.

3. Read the new players Q & A forum.

Some more advanced tips:

4. dont mix guns.

5. NO REALLY, DONT MIX GUNS.

When creating a Character, nothing really matters, go for best look and rp-feeling.
Just one thing: Balance your atributes. A little more perception, a little less charisma perhaps, but overall balanced, nothing extreme.

In two years you will thank me for that advice. ;)

Oh, as Aura will tell you: If in doubt, right click.
And don't be afraid to ask questions. Do read a lot, but if you have to ask, let everyone feel that you tried to solve the problem alone, but couldn't. People like that, you might suddenly notice a sudden boost in your wallet for asking good questions..
If the thing you asked is covered in the tutorial, people will get angry, though.

Chaos is niether good, nor evil, but is at the very core of everything.

I, too played the tutorial and think highly of the game, unfortunately I'm a bit busy with research papers and what not for school.  There's something about a vast universe, and you traveling through the cosmos in your own ship that just grabs me.  I was also impressed with the quality of the over all community, though I don't think I got far enough to appreciate any real storyline.  Perhaps in the month I have between spring and summer semesters I'll get a chance to buy and really play.

May the Chaos forever bind you to it's glory.

I am gamer. Hear me click.

1. Do ALL tutorials. You will receive your first frigate doing the tutorials. They'll give you a better understanding of the game plus some ISK to get started.

2. Again, do the tutorials. Many people start the game, go into rookie help chat and ask the same questions that would have been covered in the tutorial.

3. Do not fly what you cannot afford to lose.Too many people quit the game because they skill up just enough to fly a big ship, spend all their money getting said ship, and then promptly lose it in space usually to some pirates or gate campers. Then they complain that the game is unfair and quit. If you cannot afford to buy your ship several times over, do not fly anything more expensive and don't take it to places where you know you're going to get killed (basically flying willy nilly in low sec or 0.0 space).

4. You are only 100% guaranteed safe docked in a station. However, I've never been personally killed in high sec space BUT it does happen to other players so always be on guard no matter what.

5. In your first month playing, I suggest doing NPC missions and mining both in high sec space. These are both fast tracks to making a lot of ISK. Don't worry about joining a corp just yet. Learn the basics of the game first, get some skills, get yourself to a point of self-sufficiency and then go find a corp.

6. Do not take ganking personally. If you are brave enough to venture into low sec or 0.0 space, know that as a newbie, your chances of being ganked are incredibly high. Don't take it personally. This is why when you start the game out, fly cheap ship so that when you are killed, losing your ship is no big deal. Do not become personally attached to your ship.

7. Manual warp to your destinations as opposed to auto-warping. Auto-warping takes longer and is a primary complaint of players who claim the game is slow because of the amount of system jumps that are involved to get anywhere. However, if you use manual piloting while warping, not only will you get to your destinations faster, but you'll have a much easier time surviving gate-campers.

8. The cake is a lie. (Oops, sorry, wrong game)

Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.

To Syth: Yea, the aspect of flying through the  voids of space drew me in. Eve reminds me alot of x2. In x2 you got off to a slow start also.

Well i guess i should start reading the tutorial ;) judging by the feed back.

And last time i tried the game, i managed to save enough to buy a nifty new ship but didnt have enough to equip it. It was just basically a flying piece of metal to me.

I tried going into the game today but forgot all the skills that are available to each race. Certain races and bloodlines are more suitable to a certain task im guessing, but a player can also train his avatar to fill any role right?

Well thanks for the feedback guys, gonna start on the tut right now.

Consider rolling your character along the lines of this guide, won't steer you wrong.

If you are interested in a career as a miner, this guide is a big help.

If you feel mission running might be more your style, (I prefer this route myself) this guide will be invaluable.

Heh, yea ive always been a jack of all trades kind of guy, but the town handyman never makes enough to splurge on himself you know what i mean?

I did try making a character today, but he meet his demise at a 1.0 sector in front of a station.

I was gearing toward the freelancing bounty hunting/pirating guy who could at least do some decent mining.

On the other hand getting my hands wet with the isk of the eve economy could be fun also.
