Been playing through the trial and enjoying it, I know I'm a bit late with this. I did play OB but due to RL issues couldn't play. So I've been really enjoying my time but can't make up my mind on a class. I think the reason I can't choose is because I've never been much of a PvE player. Most MMO's I've played have been for the PvP element. But I'm really looking to get into the PvE side of this game rather than the PvP which seems like more of a mini game to me. I've done everything I can to try and choose a class, read about them, watch vids on youtube, tried playing out each one. But tbh because of my lack of PvE experience I'm really not sure what I'm going to prefer as a throughout the game. Another worry I've had with choosing a class is also are there any classes which find it particularly hard to get groups and in raid guilds? I really like the idea of playing the hunter long term but also feel the same way about playing as a tank or champion. any words of adivce on the classes would be very much appreciated, I just hope I can make my decision soon. :) |

Well, it's hard to give you advice when we don't know what you like. The classes are pretty well balanced overall. A minstrel will have the easiest time finding a group simply because they are the main healer. But I wouldn't say that any of the classes are difficult to find a group for (even in raids). They all bring unique abilities to a group, and LOTRO has a lot of flexibility for group composition. For example, a lot of group content can be done without a minstrel by utilizing things like crowd control, a good tank, and healing fellowship maneuvers.
Just play whichever character you enjoy the most. |

My mains are on Nimrodel, but I run a permadeath group on Elendilmir. I second that as a suggestion for a server. It's a very good server. |

I would suggest playing Minstrel since they're always in demand and overall an interesting experience. Not only are they the main healers but while solo or if another Minstrel is invited to the group 1 of u can switch to War-Speech and deal out an incredible amount of AoE DPS. Minstrel is more like a battle-priest with war-speech on and can hold their own in just about every event. I highly suggest you give them a deeper trial to see what I mean. War-Speech is acquired at lvl 20 if I'm not not mistaken. Hunters are a plague on every server, you can't walk 5ft in any direction without bumping into or tripping on one! In my eyes Hunter is the easiest class to play, and are for those that want instant gratification and little challenge throughout the meat of the game. {Not like the game is all that hard to begin with but still makes it even easier...}
I am also on Elendilmir... Tons and tons of players on all the time! |

Thanks for all the advice, I realise I didn't specify what I like playing as but that has been the whole problem I do like each playstyle for different reasons. I thought that there would be alot of legolas wannabe's playing hunters, that did kind've put me off. I may take a deeper look at minstrel then if not champion sounds cool to me just wanted to make sure groups aren't put off by melee dps because I've seen that issue in PvE with a few previous MMO's and wanted to make sure if I roll that class I wouldn't have all that much trouble finding groups. Edit: thanks for all the invites to play with you guys also but unfortunatly I'm from UK so will be playing on the EU servers. |

Clench all you want, it''s still going in. |
Every class is fun to play, and they all feel vastly different from one another. Champion is a great amount of fun....and don't worry, DPS is always welcome. A lot of groups I run in end up going without a minstrel, so we just dps everything to death. As far as hunter...just don't roll an elf. Roll a man, or hobbit, even. My hunter NEVER gets turned down for groups, even if there are other hunters in the group. We have great DPS, we're not squishy, and we have run buffs / transportation abilities. Plus, if the healer gets aggro, no one can get it off like a hunter :P Minstrel is great fun as well. Unlike other games, you can solo very well, and healing isn't all that stressful. You have a MAD amount of buffs, and decent defensive abilities. Guardian can be kind of hard, if you try to play as the traditional tank role. It's hard to keep aggro with the limited taunts, (especially with a hunter getting 5+ crits in a row, stacking dots, and doing INSANE amounts of damage). A guardian's DPS really sucks hard, so soloing can be a chore. It is still a lot of fun though, especially using your shield as a weapon. Good luck on finding the class that suits you the best...and don't be surprised if you end up with a fleet of alts. |

Thanks for that Whargoul, good to hear I'm not the only one that feels spoilt for choice. I'll just keep running through them all and see which I end up happiest playing. Thanks for the advice everyone I guess it's just down to me now |

Originally posted by Ascension08 My Captain is just hitting level 40. I love this class. It has a good mix for a party and is considered a good backup to a Minstrel while at the same time can back up as a tank for a party. Part healer, buffer, and decent fighter. At level 40 you can get a mustering horn where you can call your fellowship (group) to you. Have not seen much of the Burgler mentioned. This is another interesting class. |
