Hello,

I just returned to Guild Wars after a long time away and owning only the Prophecies campaign,What exactly does one need to compete in the top bracket of pvp ?   Does it require so much that it's not even worth the effort ?

To be truely "Competitive" in Guild Wars PvP (GvG), you really need all three campaigns and should really have Eye of the North

However, if you don;t have them all, you can make that up with the PvP skill packs available through the ingame store, however, although you would have the skills, you still wouldn;t have access to playing as a Dervish, Paragon, Ritualist or Assasin

You will need all the campaigns and Eye of the North in order to compete in the highest bracket of PvP. Once you have that covered, it's as simple as making a PvP character and playing a bit of low-end PvP to unlock some skills you might need, then you're all set. You'll need to find a guild that does Heroes Ascent too. It's much easier doing it with a guild compared to PUGs.

Do guilds still do Heros Ascent ?

Pvping unlocks skills ?

when you pvp you get balthazar faction, and you use this faction at the priest of balthazar to unlock skills and runes and insignias. and yes some guilds do and are even made to solely compete in heroes ascent, but usually they have a req of hero rank 3 or more

It all depends on what build you're running, how good the PUGs are etc. It shouldn't take you long at all though. You need I think 180 Fame for Rank 3, which isn't much at all.

As far as builds, What build would be considered a defensive/support type ?      I would imagine that these would be in need and I have always played these types of roles.

Also where do you see the fame points ?   Is in the same area I see my faction rep?

for the build and stuff just check out the builds on PvXwiki. To see how much fame points you have go to the bring up the hero menu (H) and click on the titles tab. If you dont have any fame then it wont show anything
