Funcom has posted a video peak at the character selection screen for Age of Conan.

Every now and then, we rummage around and find some cool stuff on the way, and we just can’t resist sharing it.

For example, we were digging around the various arcane folders in our virtual haunted library and stumbled upon a video from some of the developers, obviously captured while they were working on something.

It was a hot new character select screen, one that’s never been seen before. Heck, half the development team probably hasn’t seen it. We watched it and we thought, well, that’s pretty cool. We should give that to people. Then we should leave, before Gaute comes stomping up to demand an explanation for releasing definite Work In Progress-type stuff.

So, here it is, the very latest, cutting-edge, ganked from the developer’s desktop, version of the character selection screen. What’s interesting is that has a life of its own, like a day-night cycle (it’s night in the clip you’re seeing), plus wind and all sorts of things.  Some of this is still not even ready for beta, much less public viewing, but we’re bringing it to you anyway!

Can't say i'm impressed looks rather crap and the character models are pretty horrible looking, I know I say bland alot but it is.... doesn't have a art style or look I care for and wonderign why they didn't record sound.

Because not every video is out to win an Oscar.

That video told me a lot with very little.  High rez characters, excellent looking clothing and armor. Also told me that archers can wear Quivers and that there is also Capes in this game at launch. A lot of MMOs don't offer Quivers and some don't even offer Capes (DDO offers neither).

I liked that video a lot.

Can't wait to play this game.

The video reminds of GnH and that's not a good thing but I won't judge the game by this dull character selection screen.

Argh.  For some reason, it won't play on my Windows Media Player.  It just says something about the codec not downloading.  YEARGH!

  Media Player just needs the DivX codecs. 

 Just download the newest DivX player installer and during the install options, uncheck everything but the codecs.  You don't need to install the player or the other backweb toolbar junk, etc...

I love how the most hyped game of the moment gets just as many 'looks like freakin COW DUNG!' as it does 'hey cool' on this website lol.

I notice a lot of nice things. Wind, dust in the desert there, nice character models and gear, cloaks and quivers and cool environments. Dynamically blown 'hair' and more.

Note this is an incomplete video. It's taken strait from a devs desk as he was working on it himself. So it's not completely finished.

Granted, any footage is better than no footage, but this is just PR b.s. so that it looks like they really care by releasing some "hot off the developer's computer" footage.

Also, just because they had quivers and capes doesn't mean there will be any at release.  I set the bar low so that I'll be impressed at release.

It's not like this was released simultaniously at TTH, Gamespot and MMORPG.com. It was a Friday Feature, directly to the games pre-release community.

As to setting the bar low before release. You do that. :)

Cant say im very impressed with the character models. Do they look neanderthal-ish to anyone else?
