Keep Virgin from destroying the internet...

So good old Virgin is now gone corrupted lol!

The new CEO of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett, has openly stated in an interview that they think net neutrality is “a load of bollocks” and claimed they're already doing deals to deliver some people’s content faster than others. They would then put websites and services that don't pay Virgin in the "slow lane", meaning those sites would load slowly and cause most users to give up using them, feeling forced to use whatever Virgin wants to push through their network.
This is not the first time an internet provider infringes upon net neutrality, but it is the first time that an ISP so brutally states that they simply plan to limit internet access to a television-like system in which the access provider completely regulates the content you have access to.

Youre only as strong as the tables you dance on,
the drinks you mix, and the friends you roll with

How much more greedy can you get ...

President of what?

Welcome to Internet 2.  Get use to it.

98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you're one of the 2% who hasn't, I bet you drink coffee/alcohol and take aspirin but think you've never done drugs.

"If we could live without passions, maybe we would know some kind of peace, but we would be hollow"

after he loses all his money on his entirely half ass idea of a private spaceport a century too early he will rethink this.

Great idea, at least financially, IF you owned or controlled a very large part of the internet infrastructure, wich I doubt virgin does.

Let me get this rigth.

If I am not a virgin costumer I do not get access to virgins net at full speed?

The only thing this seems to do is making the idea of putting ANY webpage on a virgin net a stupid idea, as you are essentially limiting your potencial consumer base a LOT.

If it loads slowly I will not go there.

You have no body, no blood, no bones, you are but a
thought.

Why are we trying to stop them again? Who cares if some moronic company gets big headed and bankrupts itself?

Virgin has something like a 35% share of British broadband provision. That's quite sizeable, and I think second only to BT, with an almost identical number. The slippery slope argument is the one that applies here: if Virgin can pull it off, then greedy marketting executives in BT, Sky, AOL, AT&T and so on will soon pick up the trend. Likelihood is, this will happen sooner or later anyway, and unfortunately it will work (I'm seeing an 'internet providers conglomerate' type thing, so the companies can just donate to a big pot which gets split annually between all the ISPs.).

And I believe you've got it the wrong way. If you ARE a virgin customer, you get sites that pay virgin at high speed, and sites that don't pay virgin at low speed. I don't think it will apply to virgin providing internet to businesses in the direction you said (i.e. non-virgin customers getting slower speeds connecting to virgin sites) as that would be, as you said, just stupid.

Your last sentence sums up exactly the issue we're facing here. Sites dying, just because the ISPs want them to.

Dong, where is my automobile?

I'm sure that laws keep competing companies from talking to each other about higher prices, they keep monopolies from happening..
besides customers could just boycott the companies that decide to pay virgin mobile for premium bandwidth and customers could boycott virgin mobile altogether and they'll be like shit we dont want this anymore and virgin will be like shit that was a stupid idea..
of course for everybody in the spirit of boycotting there will always be that percentage of people who just don't give a shit and ruin it for everybody else..

The most naive thing that I've ever heard is that we're alone in the universe.
