Hey there. I've been looking to upgrade my Dell XPS Gen 3 PC, it's got about 2 years now. I'm thinking to buy a new video card, a new processor and new memory. The problem is, I don't know how to check what motherboard I have. What I know about my system is:
Processor: Pentium 4 3.2 GHz Video Card: nVidia GeForce 6800 GTO Memory: 1 GB (I don't know what model.) The rest of the parts are good still, I guess. What I'm curious about is how to check my motherboard's model, memory compatibility and socket? Here's what I was thinking of buying:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHZ 6M 1333FSB Retail Box (BX80570E8400) Video Card: EVGA 512-P3-N875-AR GeForce 9800 GTX KO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card Memory: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
I'm not sure if I need to change my motherboard, but I might as well do it to make it compatible with the above. What do you guys think? Any advice is greatly appreciated! |

Tbh Dell computers aren't normally built to be upgraded much, so you might have to upgrade the full rig. Also geforce 6000's, i think, only came as AGP and all the great graphics cards now are PCIE, meaning you'd need a new motherboard anyways. Also you might want to go for a OEM version of the CPU and put a Zalman or Akasa fan on it to make it super cool :D |

Well, it's a huge difference money wise between upgrading and buying a new computer, so I'm trying to see what choices I have ;)
