So I found out who the person was that saw Darkfall at E3 2006 inside their hotel room on that laptop. It was the old Senior editor here at mmorpg.com , Dana. He's now over at Warcry.

I asked him what he saw in the hotel room. This was what he said.

-----

what did you see?

lepidus20-25 minutes of raw footage, not an actual game, I admit. However, bluntly, if they were faking that, they were faking it with bugs and everything one would expect.

--------

So here we have some actual proof that they did not show up to E3 with an actual game.... and it may be very likely that they did not even have a functioning game back home in 2006 to show anyone...

Huh? I don't see what you're trying to get at. That doesn't prove anything else than that whatever the guy saw, had bugs. Could be taken either way. And that's pretty funny, because it's excactly what people will do with this post (like you did yourself). Just wait and see.

Foramu Otaku

I think the point the OP was trying to make was that it was raw footage and  not a playable game that was shown.

Hell was build for heroes.

Most of us could have told you that they didn't have a functional game at E3.

It is pitty that people find satisfaction by misbehaving on a gaming site.

This is the way the Darkfall ends

Not with a beta but a whimper.

And they where incapable or unwilling of showing the game to Asp during his visit last year either, they demonstrated a stand alone tech demo that apparently they had been using over the previous year to show to potential publishers.

Just to clarify I don’t think they where faking anything, I just think as shown they where incapable or unwilling of demonstrating an actual working version of the game in 2006 at E3 or during the 2007 Asp visit, and they still are incapable or unwilling of doing so at the present time.

Interesting that he says he viewed 20-25 mins of footage if the majority of this was not screen shots but actual video then it shows that they are perfectly capable of producing a significant amount of video but obviously seem reluctant to actually demonstrate any substantial amount of it to the community.

Seems quite obvious that despite a few very short videos released the developers don’t actually have much to show that they appear to feel would be advantageous to present openly to the community.

I think it’s a pity that they are not more open and truthful and show us the same type of material that was shown to Lepidus, but I presume if they did so a lot of there history of constant assurances and promises would probably be shown to be completely false so its understandable that they do not.

In my opinion this indicates the reason why we have seen so little videos of the actual game, and also shows that despite the developers constant assurances this game was no where near release or beta in 2006 or at any other time prior and that it probably is still a very long way from completion.

Would it be possible to continue the correspondence and enquire about whether or not he actually witnessed anything relating to any of the major features of the game or if it was only the characters in landscapes, terrain fly bys or small combat scenes etc. we have seen already.

it was a couple years ago, so really all I remember is a lot of wild PvP action and blood spatter, to be honest. That's not to say more was not there. On a personal level, games like DF don't really interest me, so I admit its a bit blocked from my memory.

Graphics of course matter, but if they were to put out their current level of graphics as a free to play microtransaction game, I am sure it would do just fine provided the gameplay was decent. If they go subscriptions/retail, they might be in trouble.

He said he only watched around 20 minutes of the demo vid... so he was guessing that more "MIGHT" have been there.. But I highly doubt it otherwise they would of told him to stick around for the good parts.. or would have actually shown them in the very beginning. Sounds like it was just a really drawn out version of the vids you can watch on youtube.
