Age of Conan

I was really waiting for this game to be cool and get me back into gaming again (MMO gaming at least).  Now I feel lost.

I know that I have read some other posts that say you can't judge a game in beta, but for that to be true (in my case at least), I have to at least see one or two things I find pretty cool.  I didn't find those things at all.  I wasn't too impressed with the gameplay, graphics, quests, anything really.  I'm not trying to degrade anyone who likes the beta, heck I'm happy for you, but I'm seriously feeling let down.

My question is, what is coming up that is cool?  I know WAR is on the horizon, but how far. I'm having an okay time playing LotRO, but it's not filling that awesome feeling that I got from games like Everquest, Camelot, EQ2, even WoW did it to some extent.  Those are the games that leave you with a longing and a sweet memory that is fond to look back on.  This game just seems like a company that tried to hard to be something but instead missed the mark.  I appreciate the effort but I don't think it was coordinated quite right or something.

I think I feel sort of like a sucker now for falling into all the hype.  I hope WAR is different.  But the wait is sooooo long.  What till then?

If you want to pass some time away, I'd recommend trying the EVE 14 day free trial or even StarQuest free trial.  StarQuest is a lot  like SWG was pre-CU and you will find a lot of SWG vets there.  The only problem is, the graphics are OLD. 

Anyway, I wish you the best in hunting down the right MMOG for you.

I feel generally the same. Above all the bug and performance, I didnt get hooked by AoC so far. I miss that feeling of really wanting to log back the next day ASAP. I mean its cool and nice and all, and still I dont feel so appealed atm. Not sure what to do either.

I definitely enjoy the game a lot, but in your defense (and from past experience with games I've had hype with), I think a lot of it is mental. Many people go into a game trying to hunt for certain flaws right off the bat, or compare certain elements of the game to others right off the bat. It's human nature, but in the grand scheme of things you create your own mental game of comparison, and yeah, that washes away the fun factor in any game.

You ever wonder why people fall just about IN LOVE with their first MMORPG? (For a lot of people that's EQ1, but mine was DAoC) It's because they have nothing to compare it to, and they're going in knowing nothing about anything regarding MMORPGs and how they're supposed to work. Everything felt like a learning experience and you wanted to use every little thing given to you to help you survive and better your character. Think about it. It's mental.

Mortal online  , darkfall  Chronicle of Spellborne are the only games on my radar right now.

Why do you want to troll this guy?  He likes the game, it just isn't hooking him.

Every game I have played either does or doesn't hook me within the first hour of playing regardless if it beta, open beta, launch, or two years after release.  It is called first impressions.

Ok my honest thoughts are....it sounds like you eexpected alot from AoC, being in beta you should start out as if you were going into a mine field. It's a situation where being a pesimist can work to  your advantage.  When you arent' expecting anythingg it'll be hard to not be a little plesently suprised whn you see a sliver of hope it seems promising all of the sudden. 

Take me for example, I am a fan of Mythic and am anxiously awaiting WAR.  So part of my reason for playing AoC beta was tor have the chance to say "I tried it, it sucked, everyone should save money, and wait fo WAR."  But I found alot of qualities in AoC that I like...it's got lots of potential, for  me. 

So maybe try it again, because you already have the additude where you think it'll suck.  I'd suggest a melee class because combat is the same basic layout  but a bit different than in most mmo's.

Either that or return to a game you loved before that is still reasonably ranked, sometimes it's fun to start over in a familliar land...I'd suggest startying on a  iffeent server though, because new peole=different new expiriences

Chronicles of Spellborn sounds like a fun game, not over-hyped, just solid ideas and great environment.

Maybe check that out, I have that on my watch list, I think its a dark horse and its going to do good things for the genre.
