Is there pvp in this game?..If so, is it any good?...What are the parameters of it? |

This is definitely not a pvp mmo. There is only a limited arena type pvp. That's it. Also, because of the biped/dragon dichotomy and biped multi-classing there's not even a semblance of the kind of 'balance' you see in mmos with real pvp. Pvp-nuts are unlikely to find satisfaction with this game. Istaria is more about the playerbase working together to build things and combat a common foe.

An unusual feature is that non-dragon players can multi-class as much and often as wished. For example, most players, regardless of their preferred class, take a few levels of cleric to gain healing abilities. As a result, balance for pvp is impossible; that and the strong player preference for PVE ensures that there never will be PVP. This also means that the griefers that may be attracted by PVP are not going to be in Istaria either. |

I'm only playing intermittently these days; however I can honestly say that I have not seen this (I play on Order.) Nor have I seen mention of this on the Istaria community forums.
We used to have a would-be roleplay enforcer on Order, who caused considerable flaming, but she's been long gone. |

Never played on Order (the smaller server) myself, but from others' reports the problems seem to be on Chaos. I have seen it mentioned it on the community forums. From memory it was Order people commenting on the community problems on Chaos. A dev chatlog I think. I'd have to dig for it. The current community seems fairly accepting of these problems. The first time I saw the marketplace channel go feral on my last visit, my guildies explained it was a frequent occurrence and it was best not to get involved. Though if you look on those forums (and these) you will find several reports from newbies complaining about unhelpful and/or plain rude responses to questions on chat channels. |

Boredom is in the temperament of the beholder. |
So this is a problem with the Chaos community, not the game community. |

Originally posted by katriellWhat I said was in response to someone else making a claim about a lack of griefers, not on the Order server (the smaller of the two servers), but in the game, as the result of the very limited nature of pvp which is common to both servers. The flaw in that logic is just that they ignore that the game has other attractive features (eg. dragons, building etc.) which could still appeal to griefer-types. |

I have recently played as a new player on both order and chaos. Both servers have people that are friendly and helpful. Both have players that are more interested in keeping their sandbox as big as possible for themselves and would rather that new people go away. They treat you as such too. But in that regard I have found this games community to be no better than what I saw in Vanguard or a few other small games. To date the best community I have ever seen in an MMO has been in EQ2. That playerbase seems to understand that the key to making sure EQ2 is around for a while is to treat new players well or at least answer their questions when they are asked.
and no you wouldn't want PVP in this game. Multiclassing makes it impossible to incorporate. |

The irony is that once upon a time, Horizons was going to be a PvP-focused MMO.. way back in its early development days. In fact, it was going to be a very different game all around. Check out this old IGN Preview
