I seriously don't see why "anyone" would be upset over this great news. At least it means that Funcom has gotten a good hold on the issues, and obviously are making great progress in correcting them. Perhaps what they stated their goals were in the Beta test using an older client were actually true then? It sure looks like it to me. I'm sure the many haters will sit back and think of new excuses to put the game down though, but performance may ultimately not be one the the reasons. Also, obviously from some posts there are some systems experiencing worse performance but, this is still great news. I believe Funcom now has a handle on the performance issues. Good work! |

Does your computer have a standard 7200RPM HDD where the client is installed? I only ask because in the OB the largest issue for me besides a random lockup is the load times. I've defragged post-install and all, but some zones just take a hell of a long time to load (especially the little last bit of the progress bar). So, I have to ask. :) Otherwise I may have to knuckle down and join everyone else on the 10k RPM HDD bandwagon of whirling jet noise. :-P -- Brede |

Hey all, just to throw in my 2 cents. I am a CB tester as well, I was paying pretty close attention to the patching process and it was a total of about 245MB one 52MB and one 190MB or so. Before I go into my thoughts about the patch and permorance thereafter, I want to tell people up front that I may be looking at this through rose colored glasses, and I think I have a decent excuse for that. There was a patch a couple of days after the PVP open beta that simply broke the game on my computer. When I would start up the game it would completely freeze my computer, I was unable to do anything other than a hard reboot. The error reporting process through Microsoft would tell me it was a video driver issue, but since i had the latest drivers, there was not much to do. (I'm sure that i could have gone back to an older version, but I am simply not tech savy enough to do that). Anyhow, fast forward to today. It had been about 2 weeks since i had tried to play, so I thought I would see what the latest patches were and if they fixed anything. So I downloaded the patches, and low-and-behold, I could actually load the game up. So this was a step in the right direction. I also noted no CTD's or freazing during my couple of hours of play, which is a vast improvement over what I was use to. Also, the game seemed to be eating up alot less ram than it had been before, but that could just be my immagination, or faulty memory. It did play smother, which is why I stated that it was using less memory, but it could have been the rsult of some other fix. I no longer had to stand in place for 2-3 minutes before I could properly move around as I did before as well. All this on a fairly low end computer, with only 1gb of ram, 3800 X2 dual core, and a 7600GT vid card, everything else is just what came in the box. So, take it for what it's worth. |

cannot speak for jon wood but for me loading times improved drastic with patch. i had 5 minutes+ load times and now they are down to normal 20 seconds. but yesterday someone posted a trick here to fix it as well taht allready had about same effect as the patch on load tiems. just delete all shader.* files in your install directory and start direct form ageofconan.exe to avoid that the patcher downloads them again. with that i had allready about same performance as today. btw if you start from ageofconan.exe now after closed beta patch it will also start the patcher. |

Any real fan of PC games would be delighted to see Funcom pull off a really great title. Ugh; I actually feel disgusted by some of these comments. Honest skepticism I am all for, but some of this bile is really unbelievable. |
