Behold! Rash of the Itch King comes in November! Quake in fear! |
Originally posted by daylight01 Here's my advice. Enjoy the ride. All these people running around like ravenous fanatics defending the game, or the trolls running around like headless chickens, are pretty entertaining. Pick a side and laugh your butt off! Anyways that's what I'm doing, lol. None of this will matter at its release, or after its release, because that's when the real judging should start. I'm waiting a month after release, but I'm enjoying this pre-launch madness.
And btw, AoC will have a CONSISTENT sub count of ~200k until it either A) irons out the wrinkles and improves performance for the common man, and/or adds content or makes game improvements - we can't foresee anything now however, since we don't know what content or what game flaws there are after level 20, or B) gains so much popularity that people really get hooked and decide to try it and love it. This probably won't happen until 6 months to a year after release though. And by all means, 200k subs IS A SUCCESS. If Funcom expects more, they're overly optimistic. Blood n boobs ain't all you need. |

The suspense is terrible. I hope it will last. |
AoC will be a favorite this year and thats no doubt. Yeah you can wait for the WoW expansion and enjoy another 10 levels of grinding and waiting for that uber piece to drop in the new dungeons. But AoC is something new and refreshing. I dont know about you, but I have been WoW'ed out for about 3 years now. I love what AoC has, which is more a Dark and Gritty atmosphere instead of something colorful and cartoonish. WoW definetly redefined mmo's and caters to a young and old crowd. But I am looking for something with great immersion and maturity. WoW served its purpose, but as one person said, WoW is yesterday and I am looking for something new and innovating in my mmorpg experience.

Why not try it out? I have little doubt I'll get my money's worth for the free month. It's a game, not a car - if it sucks, I'm out a few bucks. I accept that terrifying risk! :) And it's not a choice between WoW and AoC for me. WoW is a non-issue. When I cancelled my WoW account a while back, I couldn't even be bothered to log in for the last 2 weeks it was active - now that was some wasted money! Posts like this one reek of fanaticism. The claims of trying to help people ring false, as there are hundreds of games (and movies, DVDs, music CDs, etc) released every year that don't have FUD attached to them for little reason. After all, what reason is there to care how someone spends some of their extra money, unless you're worried how it will affect the competing product that you're attached to? |

There might might also be a risk of the internet collapsing from all the traffic related to AoC. Think I read it on the Warhammer forum, or was it WoW...

To the OP: Age of Conan (IF they can sort out the rather important technical problems in the next 3 weeks), would have a targeted audiance of about 300K/400K max. Reason : The technical specs are much too high to be a mass market product at this time. So I don't get your post. Conan for most people interested is just an experiment. So why would anybody leave ANY game for an experiment without testing it all first. And reviews? God half of the commercial reviews on the web and magazines are already prepared and half written by the publishers themselves. Remember the 97% LOTRO had at launch with some well known magazine. In the state it was launched (no end content, no decent pvp, no factions of good or bad and very stiff animation, LOTRO went to 1.2% marketshare: mediocre at best). Staying or quitting with game X just isn't important. Try Conan and most of us will leave it at that and stay with the game(s) they like. It's as if the whole community will go out and play Conan. Well they choose a product for 5% of the rigs, so ...if they penetrate the market with 2%, it would already be a huge success.

I am sorry m8,normally I agree with your posts but this statement I dont, "And btw, AoC will have a CONSISTENT sub count of ~200k until it either A) irons out the wrinkles and improves performance for the common man, and/or adds content or makes game improvements" Can you back up this?or again like so many other's just pull a number out of your head? I know you maybe have YOUR doubts but they are YOUR doubts,If you can show me a pre-order selling list I maybe will agree, not to point out that almost every european seller is now sold out of the CE I find you point hard to believe and also that they cant get enough OB keys to please ppl even though OB is near its end...This could be agrued till the sun come's up but the truth is niether you or me know the number's so why assume them? |

wow is a good game, i admit that, but it just isnt for me, the main thing is the cartoony graphics and the way blizzard is doing their major expansions (TBC, add 10 levels, even the best epic gear from before the expansion came out was worse then the worst green drop in outland...WoTLK, they are going to do the same thing) blizzard is for the casual MMO gamer, that's why a lot of people play it...games like AoC and EVE and such are for more serious/hardcore MMO gamers |

Originally posted by zoddenPlaying ANY MMO at launch is a nightmare.. Too crowded. Everybody stumbles over each other and it is NOT because you miss the first days that you'll always be behind the first to go in. In this case of Conan every sign is there that points to a very rocky and unstable (technical) launch so I think that you don't need to feel guilty in missing "the opening night". There will be many more nights to come. |
