Just thinking that planetside won't be around that much longer. i would say give it 2years before they close the game down.

But when well they make a game just like planetside or even better. i love the free for all PvP ,weapons.ect.. or is there already a game in the works whats going to be the next planetside?

Poor Planetside. you were a great game but then sony had to play with you.

Planetside? Who would play planetside when you have games like BF2142, BF2 or CoD4 out there?

possibly for the thousands/hundreds of people who could be invovled in one single fight over one base?

dont see that in bf2 etc

That appears to be an untapped market for the most part, and not seeing a lot new on the horizon. 

one thing i love about planetside,is that it was not a  map. it was worlds and free running around. you could battle hundreds of players at the same time.

with BF games you can have only 60 players on a map. not as fun..

People that want 1000s on the same server playing in a persistent world MMO.

From what I understand, they are currently merging the last 2 US servers into one....I would assume that is because there may be a lack of thousands of people.

It never felt like I was actually playing with 1000s of people anyway.   The battles didn't really feel more FUN than BF, UT2k3 or any other FPS, because I was always wondering why the hell I wasn't hitting someone when I had them in my sights.  Yes, it was not a "real" FPS and that was the whole problem.  Its set up to feel like one but It didn't feel like an FPS or an RPG.  The ganeplay was just a bad combination of everything wrong with both genres.  

Besides, the art, weapons & gameplay in PS sucked the big one when you compared it with UT.   I'm paying a montly fee to wait around and travel to a fight, deal with lag, look at some pretty boring environments.  Why, when I can do it for free?  Its not like anyone actually won PS anyway.  Just an endless tug O war.  I'd rather  play for a UT or COD for a 1/2 hr and actually get some fullfillment and feel like my skill really comes through, then particiapte in something that has no winner or loser.  The whole persistent world in PS didn't make the game better for me or any of my friends.  It just dragged the game down.

This was PS's whole problem.  It didn't offer any real benefit over the better FPSs out there.  A good game of Assault or Domination in UT was as good as any PS battle esspecially with all the mods.  I guess if you don't have hand/eye to compete, PS is a better, but normally as soon as I'm in that mode of play, I expect my personal skills to shine.  I didn't really get that from PS.  There was some mark that PS was supposed to hit and it just didn't.

In the old days of PlanetSide it was possible to have near a thousand players fighting in one battle.  I flew over one such battle and was awed then... seeing hundreds of players scurrying around lines across a valley with tracer fire flying back and forth  Battles like that only happened in the game's first year.

Yeah it would be nice to see another game with the same aspirations of large battles and larger wars.  Some day it'll happen.  Some day there will be a genre for it bigger than MMORPG.

PlanetSide all that need, is a Hi-res texture pack, and maybe add some shaders to the vehicles, to add bumpmaping, and maybe better shadows. 

The graphics are somewhat outdated, but Wow graphics are also outdated.

I don't think a total revamp is needed,..or even a good idea.  The cool thing about Planetside graphics, is that the screen is clear, you know what is on the battlefield. A graphic upgrade will add much more "noise", and the screen will look more "bussy".    I would love to have it, as a option, even if  make the FPS less than today nice levels :D
