Sorry if i didn't read all pages to get an answer, but if the worlds and all are instanced and i go in solo, will i ever meet another player or is it totally like in Guild Wars - alone?

No you will meet other people. There are a few
instances, but those load in a few seconds.
When you go out in the wild, you can walk walk walk far away  without encounter any instances.

There are no real instances, its not like world of warcrap, you just zone a lot. But not into private instances, you can still interact with every other player

Phew! Nice to hear... i had a real problem with Guild Wars and the fact that i ventured into the worlds and never meeting anyone. It made me feel like there were no other players at all and i didn't like that approach. Great game though otherwise.

Lets be honest.. think of May 17th the doors open and everyone and their mom can enter AoC.... You all start in the same area unless they have some method by which you can split them up the city will be a no go area. So yes the need for instances there will be very useful just as a method of crowd control.

Next instances for Dungeons there is a big reason for this and its same reason WoW did it. Events and dynamic adventures by instancing a dungeon / adventure you actually get to feel like your the hero of the story. In a first come first servered approach (non-instance) you feel like your on a assembly line. Lost temple of bleah ... how can it be lost when there are 200 adventurers camping every single spot in there. For true adventure immersion you NEED instances so you get the feeling of walking through forgotten hallways and eventually facing the great demon at the end.

However I do agree that for the griefers (umm I mean the PvP nutjobs)  instances could prove  both a pain and a boon. It will be a pain because that poor guy you have trapped in a spawn/die/respawn cycle could swap instances to escape you. Its a boon because if your trapped in a spawn/die/respawn cycle you can escape the ganker. Of course it could also be used to bypass your ambush but <shrug> i'm a carebear I really couldn't care less.

Now to cut this long post short instances handled properly can make a good game great as a means to add dynamic content and storylines as well as a means to control populations.

Just my 2 cents

Instances break the immersion of the game, and although I have preordered AoC, this might be one of the shortest MMO experiences I've had so far, looking forward to see WAR.

''Life is what you make of it, not what others make of yours.''

This is disappointing news.

So places such as cities will become instanced if there are too many people?

O_o o_O

Yes, there is even a command such as instance selection, which you can chose to go to another copy 0of that zone.  So abit like eq2 numbered instances and gw numbered instances.

You can select your instance by typing:  /instanceselection  ... try it.. EVERYWHERE and you will get a list FULL of instances to choose from.
That simple :]
It's not an open world and it's by far not massively.. it's like the biggest scam ever.. thanks for reading.
You should ask yourself  "Are you willing to pay 15$ a month for Guild Wars?" .. because that's what it basically means. Paying a monthly fee for an instanced game like Guild Wars.
I personally don't care for the reasons WHY everything is instanced. It is instanced. End of story. It sucks.
"Graphics" is a cheap excuse, set your graphics settings to medium or anything and problem solved.
"Lags" my ass. Then it means all non-instanced games like most MMORPGs ALL lag? yeah, right. Cheap excuse for cheap developers.
5 years of development and they came up with a fully instanced game, wow, what a shame. I am so disappointed. I really waited for this game and now it turns out to be like this.

My opinion, feel free to comment :)
I just wanted to let everyone know about how much this game is really instanced, so they don't buy it and waste their money.

Ever heard of EverQuest 2..?

First of all let me state that i havent played AoC before. All data i collect is from reading forum posts or from the info i get from people who play it who are part of the guild i am in in World of Warcraft ( and who are gonna switch over). I didnt play allot of MMORPG's in my gaminglive, but the ones i tried are Lotro / Vanguard ( retired both ) and still playing World of Warcraft ( but not really having that much fun these days ). So i never encountered a game with "instancing" or when a zone gets full it copy''s itself.

I also didnt read about it annywhere till you guys brought it up, so i started to think about it while i was reading all you guys comments, atleast the normal ones...

Definition of instancing for me is: You have a zone that can have like a few hundred(200?) people in it , if more people want in they get transferred to a copy of that zone.  A zone for me is ( transelated to world of warcraft ) not like Outland and Azeroth, but more like The Barrens is one zone and Winterspring is one zone.  Reading about AoC it has dozens of zones, so lets say 25+ and from my understanding, huge ones.

With that in mind it doesnt sound that bad to me. AoC has lesser servers than a game like world of warcraft ( if that info is correct), so we have more people running arround on each server. The last thing i personaly want is have a zone with over 400+ people in it fighting over several quest mobs like i experienced in wow. If thats your way of having fun, i would say seek dr. phil. Yet again thats just my personal opinion. 200 people in a zone is still allot of folks to get in con
