Game hopping since 2003. |
Hi guys, Im playing WoW (mainly caus my brother does) but I need a break from the epic grind so I'm looking for a game with a warm community and next-to-no grind but obviously I need *something* to do at end-game. I see everyone raving about RvR - is there a purpose to it? A ranking system? reward scheme?
P.S. EU or US? :P (Im EU)
Regards, grimboj. |

RvR - also known as - Realm v Realm v Realm Ranking System - 13 levels of Ranks Each Rank is comprised of 10 marks. Each mark will give you one RA (Realm Ability) point. RA's can be spent on unique abilities for you character. Example of an RA ability is "Purge". Purge will negate any effect cast on the player to include, mezzes, snares, or any negative ailments. The higher you go in Realm Ranks the more powerful your character becomes, making him/her much more powerful in PvP/RvR combat. Your Rank in RvR can be seen by enemy players. Higher your realm rank the more likely lesser ranked players will fear you and keep their distance. On the flip side of this. Higher ranked players will hunt you down, for the shot at fighting a formidable opponent. RvR is not the only "end game" however in DAoC. It is just the PvP end game. DAoC boast some of the hardest dungeons in MMO's. Caer Sidi is still one of the hardest instances to run in any MMO even after all the DAoC instances got hit with the nerf stick due to population. If your smart you will leave classic alone, and play normal servers. Then you have access to an entire new arena of end game through the Trials of Atlantis and the Artifacts Armor and Weapons. Trails of Atlantis at one time was very hard and everyone cried that those who wore the fabled items had an unfair advantage in PvP combat. This was true, but has since been fixed and now all artifacts can be obtained with 1 group or less, and in many cases with 2-3 people only. Playing on normal servers open up ALOT of content and will allow you access to an entire new palette when building a armor and weapon template for your characters. Anyway, the end game is there for those who can make it to the top. Keep in mind tho, DAoC the most elitist game on the market. Those who play it that are left from the old days, all elitist, don't expect to much help from the community. Take this advice with a grain of salt also. |

I would add that the end-game consists in fighting in the frontiers. You can take over or level towers. You knock holes in keeps and charge inside to take them. There are siege weapons. There are relics that you can capture from the enemy that gives your realm bonuses. There is also a huge RvR dungeon in the frontiers that provides good items and a great place to fight other players.
I do not think the game is elitest (but if you think of the term elite, why would this be a bad thing?). But in general you are not going to have people stop what they are doing to go play with you at level 1. You also are going to have to be more outgoing as a player. You will need to ask questions and ask for help - but do not pester. The best thing to do is get into a guild because you will get more help from them than it you just log into the game and say "can someone help me do . . ." There is an advice chanel for you to get easy answers from the community. The early levels of the game are more empty on the regular servers than the classic servers. However, the classic servers you miss a lot of content and they are far more interested in just getting to level 50 and grinding it out than on the regular servers. |

Thanks Julian, I knew I left out some things, like the towers and keeps and such. All i ment by the elitist comment is exactly what you stated. There is nothing wrong with it. People just aren't going to bend over backwards to help him until he is higher. Generally the community likes to see new players make an effort in the game before they will begin helping someone. Getting into a good guild tho is very good advice it does help alot. :) |

I don't agree with your statement. He was asking for information and you go off spouting your biased garbage like that. I'd hope at least when it came to DAoC that people would be more inclined to give the information in an unbiased manner but I guess my expectations are just too high. |

If you do decide to play DAoC, at least start on a classic server. On regular servers vets use a level 20 command to skip all the low level content. So the newbie areas are dead as a doornail. Good luck meeting folks or getting advice in that environment. Once you know the game a little better, a regular server might be worth a look if you don't mind being forced to do a PvE grind to be competitive in PvP and if you don't mind opening a second account for a buff bot. |

If you want advice then /advice It is not as though you actually need anyone in your physical location to ask for help. While it is true that there are not a lot of people leveling below level 20, it matters very little outside of perception. You will level at lower levels a lot faster solo. I also think it is a lie to say the PvE grind does not exist on the classic server. It exists, but in different forms. ToA is a nice break and easy to do. Further, you can spend bounty points earned in RvR to purchase what you need from ToA. Buff bots are a huge exageration and unneeded. Yes they exist. Yes if you are in a solo fight fighting a similar toon that has one you are at a disadvantage. To this I say, why are you playing solo in the first place? |

"Flame On!" ~ Johnny, Fantastic Four Thanks for the advice. Do classic servers have every expansion except ToA? I'm leaning toward just playing a classic server as a melee dps class until I understand the game more.

Classic servers have all the expansions EXCEPT ToA. It's where I played last and if I ever go back again, that's where I'll be. |
