New PvP Ruleset: Culture PvP

As part of celebrating the release of Age of Conan we are happy to unravel a brand new PvP ruleset that has not previously been disclosed: The Culture PvP ruleset! Note that this new PvP server type is experimental and players on these servers must expect an ongoing change to the ruleset.

The goal of this PvP server-type is to stimulate war behind the three cultures of Cimmeria, Aquilonia and Stygia. As a player on a Culture PvP server, you are shielded from lone travelers of your own culture, however you may still group with any culture and form a group and attack anyone.

The Culture PvP ruleset is an evolving ruleset that will be tweaked and polished based on player-feedback in the months to come. Although it is, at least currently, possible to make guilds across cultures, pure culture groups and guilds will be endorsed on this server, and as such players on the Culture PvP servers must prepare that the future will hold continued changes to the ruleset.

We have changed to ruleset on two servers that were previously flagged as full PvP. The homes for the Culture PvP servers are:

Bane (US)
Twilight (EU)

With best regards,

Funcom

Seems, they are catering more towards the casual pvp crowd with this new ruleset. I am extremely excited to see how this actually plays out. It Should make for an interesting server type.

This sounds cool.

A nice compromise between FFA PvP and PvE.

Basically it's 3 factions a la DAoC - 1 (more or less) safe realm, two hostile ones and a FFA PvP BK.

Hmm.... adds another dimension to the game. Might turn out to be the most popular server type in the end. It is a PvP-centric ruleset with at least some safeguards. Good decision from Funcom IMO.

Hmm, not sure it will work that well as you dont have access to all the classes if you want to be in a 'faction' with your friends

Sounds stupid to me, would be more logical if there was a few factions (like "The henchmen of Thulsa dhoom" or whatever) with the same effect. Everyone knows that the Cimmerians worst enemies are: Other Cimmerians.

There is no logic in all this. A war PvP scenario with temporary sides would work nice like this however but permanent? I can swallow EQ2s sides with good and evil (even though evil should be able to backstabb eachother) but there is no logic in why 2 evil stygians magicians shouldnt be able to fight over resources.

Still since this seems to be an option when you choose server it's not that big off a deal.

Actually, the way they are doing it is sort of interesting. Instead of the wow style realm vs realm. they are going for a middle of the road pvp ruleset. You can still group, talk, trade, play, group, and guild up with anyone from any race. The only difference is you'll be unable to attack anyone from your own race. sort of making it a RVRVR but with almost no boundries.

It definitely sounds fun, and they already said they plan to revise the ruleset as time goes by to refine it and make it as enjoyable and fun as possible.

Now if they just made a pvp loot or full loot server they'd be covering pretty much all their bases and make the DF fanbois squeel with glee.

It has less to do with story and more to do with appealing to casual pvpers who do not wish to play on a pure PVE realm.  The difference between PVE and FFA PVP rulesets are extreme, to say the least. This is a great alternative for people who wish to have an actual side to fight for.

That's awesome. I'm actually interested in that. I wish they'd announce it earlier, probably most guilds have made up their mind about other PvP servers.

Meh, I guess I'll be playing on Deathwhisper then.  RvR doesn't interest me so much.  Would rather they had been working on a hardcore PvP server ruleset.
