I am so confused....

They are acting like they are surprised at how many players are there...but...didn't they set the hardcap on EA?  I don't care one fiddle for the debate between how awesome this game is versus how bad it is.  The fact I see here that disturbs ME is that, even when presented a situation in which they have complete and total control over potential players online, they STILL can't get it right.

So...whats gonna happen when the game goes live?  I'm just insanely lost, I mean, they set in stone the fact that 'x' amount of players were gonna have access.  No more than that 'x' CAN be available.  Why in the hell are they having to ADD servers at this point?  Should they not have already had sufficient hardware preparation done for the EA???  Its not like they were dealing with variables here, they completely boxed the numbers on this.  Not one additional player is playing this right now than they allowed.

I worry that this will translate into how they can handle the hardware when the numbers AREN'T within their control.  This kind of thing reeks of AO...not to say it IS like AO, lord knows that they can't do THAT again.  But if you can't avoid dropping the ball when you are in total control...how the bloody hell are you gonna hold on to it when you have ZERO control?

I really wish people would stop using sarcasm or any other tone that requires more then just words. If you're going to incorporate an expression then you need to supply visual recognition as well.

Sarcasm isn't just made of words. It is defined by the tone of your voice and the expression upon your face.

As you can see doing either of those is hard to do primarily in words. Especially on forums where the mass is comprised of half witted nincompoops.

So further more, please anyone else considering using an expression such as sarcasm. Be sure to express it properly with a smiley, an emote insert, or to flat out say you're being sarcastic.

..just to avoid any further stupidness found here today.

On a side note. This thread is epic. Indeed it is a laugh in the face of the doomsayers. Hopefully this will teach them a lesson to just STFU and move on. (HAH fat chance..)

they knew how many players they would have, but not what kind of server they would roll on. It seems there was more interest in FFA PVP than anticipated, so more servers were opened up.

Simple enough for you?

I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"

Actually, yeah.  That makes plenty of sense.  I wouldn't call that something indicative of the game being a massive success like people are acting...but its NICE to see this sort of thing getting great response.  To be honest, I'm just as shocked as they are, then.  I would have expected it to be dead...not filled to the brim.

The way the matter was worded...I just didn't get that it was a "PvP server" thing.  They made out like it was a "All servers" thing.  Thank you, Wharmaster, for clarifying this whole thing for me.  MORE than that, you've brought to my attention that I MIGHT actually be wrong about AoC drawing as popular a PvP crowd as I had thought.  IF that server type is getting slammed...then it would appear the game is nearly drawing nothing BUT those players.  I'm at a loss of words as to why, but why doesn't matter.  We can't define why WoW drew so many players either, and that doesn't stop THEM from being the success they are...so I don't think AoC should have to answer 'why' either.

I stand by the fact that I think it will be lucky to get 200-300K in players, but thats not really saying anything bad.  At this point, I think we all understand ANY MMO would be glad to see that kind of sub count.  Lord knows Tabula Rasa wishes it could.

Glad I could help. I predict more than your estimated subscription numbers, but time will tell, I guess. I know the game will probably double that for the first month or so, but how many will be able to adapt to something different from the "auto-attack and eat a sandwich" style of play?

We'll have to see. I personally love the combat system, as it makes the game more "interactive", and less of a grind. Every fight is different, in my experience.

I just logged back in and the game is tanking so bad they just had to add more servers to each region and its not even on full release yet.

Adding more servers means there are more people playing. It doesn't mean the game sucks.

I rarely just outright call people names, but

Idiot.

If it were "tanking" they would be removing servers due to lack of interest.

LOL you obviously didnt catch the sarcasm...I was pokig fun at the doomsayers...now whoes the idiot?

That would be me, I admit to it.

I'm man enough for that.  I'll also apologize for the fact that I did something I bitch about, not pay enough attention to what's actually being said.

Read the original post, the OP and others in this thread were trying to spin this into proof of the game's "Triuphant Success." And to be sure, it's not a sign of it's inevitable failure either. As I said earlier it's just silliness, it means very little if anything at all.
