World of Warcraft stole almost all their ideas from other games, namely Dark age of Camelot, Ever Quest, Ultima Online, and frankly JRR Tolkien invented Orcs AND Mythril so they ripped him off too. I was back playing DAoC after having taken about a 2 year break, when it hit me. Having been playing WoW for a while I recognized almost all the elements from DAoC that they stole, and all the ones they should have stolen and didn't. (dyeable armor and meaningful PVP) I just don't get why everyone says something is a WoW clone, when essentially WoW is a clone of any one of the previously mentioned games, just a slight difference. Calling something a WoW clone is like saying any Democracy is a United States clone, or that any thing with a "Death god" in it is a Bleach clone, or that any successful store that is a mega mart is a "Wal-mart" clone. I'm tired of Tolkien rip offs I'm tired of games that have pointless endgame. I'm really tired of hatred of something that is popular just because it is popular, Saying "WoW sucks" doesn't make you cool or trendy or in the "cool kids crowd" Most of us are adults, lets act that way shall we? MMO's need new ideas, especially Fantasy ones. |

“Game Experience May Change During Online Play” is about ESRB ratings, not changing game content! |
People say "WoW clone" out of ignorance. |

Because I'm pretty sure that is where alot of people lost their virginity to MMO's at. If they didn't, well it is the most successful Western MMO to date, so that is pretty much where it comes from. See, to me, everything is an EQ Clone(that was my first). Even DAoC was a clone of EQ, with just better combat and more meaningful PvP/RvR. I would say that DAoC was a second gen game, but many of it's elements are based off of EQ. |

Well my point was that if you say everything that is created is a copy of the most successful thing that bares even a slight similarity to it that is idiotic. Yes WoW was the game that proliferated the western market, however they did so intentionally, from the get go the game was designed for the casual player. I remember playing DAoC and reading an article about WoW coming out and this great idea they had where the average joe could play a game and get something out of it. "NO EXP LOSS FROM DEATH" those were their ideas that they brought to this realm. WoW took the Fantasy MMO formula and made it so anyone could play, made it for the casual gamer. So if someone is going to say "wow clone" the game better be easily accessible to EVERYONE, both easy to play and easy to actually run on your computer. The reason is that is what WoW invented, the only thing they really can take credit for. |

DAoC, SWG, CoH, WoW, 9 Dragons, VCO, LotRo, most played many times off and on. |
Questing sucks IMO, just my thoughts, not saying others should not or can not enjoy it, I just do not. Because of this gameplay choice I think WoW does suck. Greifing and pointless PvP sucks IMO, just my thoughts, not saying others should not or can not enjoy it, I just do not. Because of this gameplay choice I think WoW does suck. I have used the term "WoW clone" myself and I think it's a good phrase. Not to say "this game is ripping off an original game" of course, more to say "this game stole the exact formula that WoW pieced together."
