Hey all.

i posted this in another Thread but didnt get any answer:(

i got Intel Pentium 4 3.20Ghz atm but will get

Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo Dual Core 3.0GHz CPU in a couple of days

3 Gb Ram

GIGABYTE 8800GT 512MB

Windows XP

but the problem is i only got a 400Watts Power Supply...

Will it be able to handle both processor and Video Card?

And what settings will it be able to run??   Med-high?

Thank in Advance:)

get a new power supply asap, 550watts or more and a decent brand, Antec and Corsair are my personal favourites. I'm using a Antec Quattro 850 right now, its running pretty sweet.

oem and other really cheap PSUs are shit.

If it's from a good brand (Corsair, PC power and cooling, ect), 400w might actually be enough to run that (wattage isn't the only stat that matters).

If it's a generic brand, forget about it, you risk hardware damage even plugging it in.

I really recommend a new PSU, a good 600w PSU is more than enough for an e8400 and even 2x 8800gt.

Generic = Cheap brand.  Make sure you get a psu from a good company. Corsair etc..as mentioned above are good.

Actualy.  It will prolly work.. As long as you don't have a ton of other devices sucking up Wattage..

That Processor and Videocard don't use up 300w combined.

100w for everything else seems like it would work..   DEFINITLY a tight fit tho.  I would prolly upgrade that.

Hi Kali,

I would go with Vista Home Basic 64-bit and put in 4GB RAM instead of 3.

Also e8400 is a great processor, but I would still get a mid-range cooler for it and overclock it to 3.6GHz or if you are more familiar with overclocking you can easily get it to be stable at 4 GHz.

There is no point really getting e8400, if you do not plan to overclock it.
