I'd personally use the Trader NPCs to buy and sell items, once they're back up. Or, are we disavowing their existence because they're down for the moment?

For you though, who seems to be intent on doing exactly that; have fun yelling over channels to sell items.

I was talking of auction houses or public marketplaces

You know the basis of our economics in present day MMO's AND societies. Not some NPC chimpansee that cashes in gold when I hand in the loot.

The last MMORPG that did this TR (launching without an auction house) was killed by its users because of it.

And you all find this "normal".

Again, please answer my question. Are you in Early Access ?

Shooo shooo, back to WoW with you, little troll hater... Build a Gnome female with pink hair and be all the girl you want to be. This game is for adults

That was great! I needed that laugh!

serious, Zorndorf, we KNOW you don't like AoC, you made your point in the uncountable other posts! We understand that you HATE the game, we understand your views on the game, you are getting repetitive... please, why don't you go outside enjoy the weather, go play an other game, go to the forum of the game you do like and discuss that, don't poison this this forum with straight lies, and learn to backup your statements, serious, I feel sorry for you...

and no I am not a AoC fanbwoi, I do play the game and I have my doubts about it, the game is not all that special and not really next-gen (except for the graphics) but don't ruin the fun for the people who actually ENJOY AoC...

/ot

have you been molested in the past?, that would be a reason for your behaviour. (I study psychologiy and busy on a paper about people who play online games and their acrtions/reactions innit, that's why the question )

That's what the trade posts are, public marketplaces. They enable buying and selling between players the same way auction houses do, but without the bidding and probably without the short time constraints that bidding mandates.

The trade posts aren't just NPCs that give you money for items..those are regular vendors. Trade posts are trade posts, they're player-driven.

There is a tool for in-game trading between players. WoW calls it 'Auction house', in AoC 'trader NPCs' serve the same function as well as being a personal bank.

The difference between the two is that there is no haggling involved in AoC. You set a price for your item and you post it on the 'trader NPC'. Then other players can straight away buy the item if they think the price is reasonable, or ignore it.

So you're not dumping items to an NPCs vendor but selling them to players as well in this system. It was a design choice. I have no idea why they made such a choice, but it seems that every other game has a different kind of trading system and it's not fair to call one inferior to another. From memory I recall personal vendors in SWG and player vendors sitting in a plaza in Lineage 2 as alternative ways of trading items found in other games.

Edit: I even remember soulshards (been years, don't remember the exact name) and other commodities player vendors in Lineage 2 sitting a bit off a castle-to-be attacked area so as to make a quick fast profit from the forgetful people involved in the castle siege.
