Why So Serious? |
I really wish developers would concentrate on gameplay more than graphics. Its great they've gotten to be so cool looking but face it if all the games come out are a lackluster and worthless gameplay wise as Crysis but look gorgeous I'll just stick to the Wii...I'd suggest the xbox or the ps3 but they all sell the same games with the same gameplay and new graphics...utterly uncreative in my opinion. Games were far more fun when Duke Nukem, Baldur's Gate, Warcraft & Diablo owned the markets. I don't think there's anything wrong with a lil upgrade here and there when necessary but requiring it is just ridiculous. Its like saying every 2 to 3 years we should buy a new tv because better TV's have come out. Once I get done paying loans, rent, food expenses, and utilities I'm lucky to have a few extra hundred bucks left over per month but not everyone is in the same position its unfair to leave those folks out simply because a few people think Better Graphics = Better games. Games were never about graphics they were always about FUN..unfortantely devs and some delusion 20 year old children have no concept or have lost sight of this. I've been gaming since the Atari 2600 for consoles and the days of the original DOOM for PCs and you don't see me crying for super awsome graphics. I just want the game to be fun. If I'm going to have to pay 50 bucks for a game I expect it to be fun first look cool second. |

Originally posted by Ozmodan First off, the system will run just fine. It may not be Ultra High video settings on something like AoC, but its not going to be bare minimum dragging at 10 fps. Second, the task was to build a 'budget' gaming machine. My 3 key factors were price ($900), upgradability and it needed an LCD monitor. The LCD sucked up a huge amount, which meant I went with lower processing and RAM. Third, the machine is sitting on my desk. This was not built for a 'friend'. My friends build their own PCs. The only people I build PCs for is my family, and they just get run of the mill, web-browsing and word-processing machines. Fourth, just because I used technology that is 2 years old, doesn't make them 'cheap'. ASUS Motherboard, Crucial RAM, AMD chip, Maxtor HD, Sony Burner, Logitech Input devices. All that remained was the Monitor and Tower/Power. Neither of which are critical when it comes to needing brand name. Lastly, you can take your elitism and go play with yourself. If I was running with the funds I did for my last machine, then I would be looking at higher-end components. But again the name of the game with this one was a 'budget' gaming machine. And the post was also to show that you don't need $1500 to build a decent machine from the ground up. Edit: Lost the Quote. |

Well nobody likes to be forced to upgrade but that's just the way it is. If you can't afford it or you just don't want to spend somuch money then you will have to stick with older games or look for another hobby.
My advice is to build your own pc's. You can build it exactly the way you want and upgrading comes cheaper to because you get exactly what you need when you need. Comes cheaper then the whole alienware/dell crap.
Oh yeah I have overclocked my cpu by 30% and my gpu by 15%. Another way to save a bit... |

Originally posted by Kyleran Well said! First, to the OP: Are you a non-native English speaker [well, writer actually] or just a slacker? If you wish to be taken seriously in the English reading world, you need to learn proper grammar. I realise that even with spell check available errors happen, but your errors are of common usage and not typos. As an example, the topic of this thread should be: "If you're a pc gamer, then you should have a good pc." Hopefully, you will learn something at the university that you are attending. On Topic: I think Vanguard is a great example of how letting the hardware drive the software is foolish. They concentrated too much on style and not enough on substance - it may have looked great on bleeding edge pc's, but it still ran like crap, even on those same pc's. WoW and LOTRO did much better by releasing with specs that were capable of running on a "last year's" pc. Both of the MMO's that I currently play [DDO & LOTRO] run fine on my 2002 desktop - 2.2Gb Pentium 2[3?] with 1G RAM and an nVidia 4400 card. There are many other games - even some currently released like <doh! Brain fart! - the newish game from Stardock> - that play well on older, lower spec pc's. Hell, some can even be played on Macs! The fun is in how a game plays, not how high the specs are for it nor how pretty it looks. Just like women... |

Graphics may matter to the majority of kiddies and non serious pc gamers out there but there are some of us who really really really just dont hardly give two shits as to how a game looks as long as the gameplay is good. That is the single biggest problem with games these days, they are all eye candy and no substance. And that is why i will always be happy to play old games i know are good than new ones which look 'better' but suck. Now im not saying graphics dont matter completley, as i wouldnt really want to be playing a game that involves just dots on a screen but i would much rather play a new, for example, fps with the graphics of half life 1 than i would a bad fps with top of the range graphics these days. I used to play (and still do occasionally) Quake 3 and i got to a quite competitive level and was pretty good and i have still yet to play an fps thats come anywhere near close since its release so why in the hell would i want to play a newer game just because the graphics are a lot better? If anything, youre the one who sounds like a non serious pc gamer who is swayed by the flashy lights blinking in your eyes. |
