I should begin playing the game tomorrow afternoon, so i have no XP yet. I have been researching trying to decide my class. First: I have been reading a little about combos, and some have the opinion that combos are only usefull in melee if both parties are standing still, but when the willi-nilly tag begins, it is useless. First can someone confirm this? Will strategy such as a "stun-combo" counter this? Second: If this is the case, then wouldn't casters or Rangers have a PvP imbalance. I have been trying to pick out the spells from what is available, but wouldn't "Kiting-combo" have an class advantage over melee classes. I am not seeking to play an "overpowered class", I just am curious about class imbalance. I am probably going to roll a Herald of Xotii. I love Mages. Although a Dark Templar looks kinda nasty (in WoW terms, a Pally that has Vamipic Embrace! Pretty Awesome!) Thanks in advance. |

today I (assassin) got owned by a guardian because I couldn't use any combos because she was moving. she unfairly killed me as I had no snare, and she just kept her distance, bitch slapping me with a polearm (has silly range for a mele weapon) from where I could not attack back (with my small range daggers) and I could not get in range. I would say aoc is VERY unbalanced right now, put its still alot of fun. and yeah combos you have to stand to finish them, and basic damage is enough to kill someone pretty quick. the worse thing right now is they did to fix spawn camping. but then I haven't got to a level where I have a snare. (hopefully assassin will get one), but yes I think I might be playing ranger over assassin just because mele combos aren't totatlly useful right now in pvp. |

There is no way a player of any skill can beat you executing combos , while you run and jump around him B-slapping him with your basic attack. And posts on PVP forums only confirm that. A combo is only good , if you can snare or trip somebody. Otherwise , he just moves away while you stand like silly swinging the sword in air |

Originally posted by Blackndyup kiting is a game mechanic. I accept that. but right now you cant use mele combos vs a good kiter. thats why I'll prolly choose a ranged class. until assassin gets a snare he will always lose to skilled guardians using this tactic. |

Originally posted by Consensus I don't have the game (yet) due to financial problems, so I'm just chatting here.. Guardian sounds kinda like a trump class against Assassins, in theory and in practice. Are basic attacks not enough? |

I was just reading about Herald of Xotli. Just like any mage, they are squishy, but up the levels they get a root, and then later an AoE fear. I have read that a lot of people have dumped this class because they are squishy early, etc. I think that's one of the reasons that I love a Mage is because it't not for everyone! I can't see them being able to fix this imbalance very easily because it would hender caster and ranged classes in leveling. Being able to use combos at range after a root or fear, and being able to run away and mitigate melee combos will be intersting! A Mage is a Mage is a Mage! Root, evade, kite, boom, your dead! Same thing for Rangers. Rangers (Hunter's) vs. Mages... hmmm... that sounds familiar! |
