I'm a programmer. I do business/accounting stuff - nothing too hard. I'm also a supervisor, and I see newbie programmers make the same mistake over and over again (until they learn better). The mistake is: they think they can design something, test it for a little bit, and throw it out to production. Inevitably, the program will blow up due to something the programmer didn't foresee. Programs must be extensively tested under varied conditions before the programmer can feel confident.

I couldn't help but think of this when I saw Darkfall would be in beta for just "a few weeks" before release....

Discuss.

Again lame and inaccurate. Game has been in closed beta for years... if the game is complete and tested two weeks of stress testing may be all they think they need. It is their game and investment. They  have no need to take advice from a troll on an unoficial forum.

Research.

For any fans who have an interest in Darkfall and not just the troll post have a look at the link below.

They are actually using pro testers to beta test the game, and Tasos is a pro devs, his team are the best of the world, game is so good they dont need our opinion.

Actually they really do need our opinions and input. We're going to be the people playing the game after all.

Besides, it would take a limited number of "pro testers" a lifetime to test all the aspects a game that is as vast as an MMO. Thats something that takes a large amount of people to do. And even with a large amount of people you still need quite a bit of time.

I'm sure if they don't have a nice lengthy public beta or even just an invitation only beta, then you can bet there will be a huge amount of holes in the game. Not to mention poor performance on many machines. I really hope they don't think they can release an MMO without the help of the people who will be playing it. That could end in disaster.

They don't need your opinion at all. The hard work has been done and they are tidying up the game for release end of 2008. If you don't want to believe the developers good luck to you...

With the poor standard of current MMOs anything half decent will sell well so again they don't need your opinion at all. Some people think they are so important amazing.

I notice a lot (most) of your posts have the word "believe" in them. You really do expect people to beileve devs who have shown very little, and proven nothing, as they delay year after year after year after year after year.

And yet, your belief is strong. You mock people who don't believe what you believe -- devs who have consistently missed deadlines, and stil insist they have the Holy Grail of MMOs.

You have blind faith.

I do not share your blind faith.

Well done !! I feel there is enough evidence and collateral that the game is being developed. From what is known they have a small development team. A couple of missed deadlines when they decided to review the game design isn't a major problem.(If they had circa 300 staff focusing on the game maybe i would worry)

The devs are pretty clear about what they have, and they believe in the game they are developing.

The word believe caveats the fact the game has not released, maybe thats the reason i use it for context as to it's current development state, yes thats right DEVELOPMENT which is fine for me. Again blind faith you have me laughing if only you knew... but then you don't do you.

I don't care if it releases or not or what you think, only that people try to develop this model of game it has the right feel for me. If you can't stand that i like the concept well you have a problem not me.

I doesn't seem to be necessary to have a lot of players in a beta for a game to be good.  It seems like a lot of games that allow tons of players into beta let a lot of the reports slip through the cracks because they are busy with other things anyway, so why not keep it in house and have a small group professional testers feeding you good bug reports at a pace that you can keep up with?  What 7 years in development means to me is that they have been taking their time to make a good game.  Of the videos that I have seen, it looks more impressive gameplay wise than any mmo I have ever played.  The graphics could be better, but I mostly care about gameplay, and things like ship warfare and pvp combat look like tons of fun.

There is no closed beta. Beta has been offered at least a couple of times and hinted at on several other occasions, but no beta actually occurred. Maybe someone's niece was "hired" to test the game in "closed beta" but that doesn't really count, does it? You say "Research". You can't research something that doesn't exist. How am I to research unicorns?

You could start here. Good luck on your research, let me know what you turn up.

Isane...

All I can say is.... LOL!.... To all your posts.

It's difficult to discuss anything with someone who follows "blind faith", and refuses to listen to reason.

There are literally hundreds of people over the years on these boards who would "welcome" Darkfall if it were more legitimate. These "trolls" as you refer to them, are NOT haters, as you portend them to be. They simply don't "believe" based on the multitude of facts they have to form and base their opinions.

You REFUSE to accept any dissenting opinions whatsoever. But, you base your "blind faith" on the word of a man named Tasos, whom you've never met, nor really don't know for a fact actually exists as the person he claims to be. I'm not saying he doesn't exist. What I'm saying is simply this.

Who the heck is Tasos?

What credibility does he have that makes you blindly follow him and his word, in spite of ALL the evidence to the contrary?

That's a mystery to me.
