Well the game does require 30 gb of hard drive space, so maybe Funcom did a cost/benefit analysis and decided it was cheaper to ship the game on DVD rather than have digital distribution.

I guess because early access was limited. I bet they couldn't handle the strain of hundreds of thousands trying to download the client worldwide. They'd have to set up hundreds of mirrors with fileplanet, gamespy etc to handle that. Or Torrent would be a good way.

Yeah, I prefer to download an MMO digitally, especially at release since I prefer to play on the USA servers, and having the game shipped over takes awhile. :P

Well it was limited and they charged for it didn't they?

I was never charged because of their incompetent billing system, but I was still able to download it while waiting for the support that never came. Anybody with the link could DL it. Also, keep in mind that a digital download requires no production costs. No manual, box or DVDs. Surely that would cover the cost of bandwidth. It probably has more to do with keeping brick and mortar game stores alive than bandwidth cost.

Yeah you're probably right. I can't say I'm happy about the lack of digital distribution. Personally, I hate having to pre-order or buy games from the local gamestops. It seems like whoever trains/tells the employees what to say is intentially spreading disinformation and downright stupidity sometimes.

I totally agree with the above. It seems there must be some sort of collusion between the publishers and the stores that sell these titles.
