Linear in a game means u have to finish one quest to get access to the next. The prime example of linear gameplay are adventure games where u have to finish one puzzle/riddle to go to the next and advance in the game's plot. Shoot-em up games are also linear, u have to kill every1/the boss in each lvl to advance to the next. The best example of non-linear games are the elder scroll ones. U have the main storyline quest but u can advance in many other, advancing your toon at the same time, without even touching the main quest.

I have no idea what AoC is like. But if all u get is one series of quests u need to complete before u can take on the next, that is the definition of linear gameplay.

People with top of the line computers are getting 10 fps, im talking about quad core with 4 gigs of ram and duel 9800 gtx's.

The game is still in beta and everyone is funding it ;p

That statement is rubbish, I am using a 8800GTX and I am getting 40-50 FPS, how do you know if it is in a beta state as you will not have played it since lauch, if you claim you have then I do not believe you!

I have 8800 gts and get about 5-10 in tarantia. I've read about some fixes that might help, but I expected far better peformance at low settings. hoping the next couple patches or a new driver will solve my issues. otherwise I'm cancelling. not investing a lot of time in an mmo where I can't do any massive endgame content (pve or pvp).

and wow is better. it may be unfair to compare since one is new and the other has 4 years of fixes, but that's the way it is. leveling in aoc is the same as wow.

One thing I will say is that I think the concept design for the classes is excellent. the priest is quite fun to play.

Overall, execution of aoc is very high in tortage. pretty good til 40, then it's a downward spiral very quickly.

If i had better performance, I could enjoy my class, running some instances for a few months. but the low frame rates has soured me on the game. I think the developers put too much emphasis on graphics, blood, and nipples and not enough on polish.

And I do commend them for trying something new with melee combat.

Other mmo makers can learn from funcom's class designs (innovative and fun to play) and their combat system.

Other than that, the game isn't special.

Oh and sanctum of the souls looks cool, but it's no deadmines or hell even wailing caverns. mobs are boring and bosses uninspired. the atmosphere certainly rocks though.

Freedom is the will to be responsible to ourselves.

I happily shelled out £35 today. After a few hours of installation and patching - I was very excited to see what AoC had to offer.

And 7 hours and 3 characters later: My cancellation reason to Funcom:

Extremely repetitive. So far 2 characters created and both so far have a different storyline, afcourse hte pickup quest around Hibroria are the same for most, again depending on your choices you make No freedom of movement nor exploration. I aint lvl 20 yet so hard to say as atleast my lvl 11 character is just doing what has been said by the devs, so no suprise here by the lack of freedom as i was not expecting it .....yet No way to skip cut-scenes. Ever tried clicking with your mouse button?? Cringe when I have to create chars Cringe? how so, you can mold your character almost identical to how you look in rl, havn't seen it in depth like this before or more meant seen as realistic as this has been before - story extremely linear. News flash MAINSTORYLINE's are alway's linear, doesn't mean you have to only play it that way, it's those who play it limited or simply choice to be limited to experiance it as limited only, experiance'd MMO players know the storyline is just a part of the game where in a MMO it's still about making your own journy, to many seem to depend on what the game offers, shame to see this happening in this genre....TERRIBLE voice acting and accents. Totaly disagree the voiceacting is one of hte best if not the best i ever seen IN A MMORPG !!! Please name me one MMORPG that has beter voice acting then AoC has Non fluid char movements and control response. Hmm this MUST be you trying ot play it either with a not well balance'd system or simply a to low range of system. I often stand still and watch some friends or some random people fight and it sure looks cool.

Makes me sad. :( Sorry to hear

Basically its a bad version of Guild Wars with an enhanced LOTR-ish feel with very awkward arcade key-mashing. Looks and feels good initially - wears of very quickly.

On the plus side: Good gfx. Good music.

Sigh. Flame me all you want, but  when you have played lot of MMOs as I have, you know can tell a true gem from the rest. Oh i am sorry i really thought i read the writtings of someone very new to this genre, if you really are experiance you know you simply can not judge a game the way you did, and you can not even compare it to the games you just compared it to whcih to me looks more like someone very new to this genre then someone who is expeirance'd in this genre, my exp. with MMOrpg's come's from the time of Meridian59, UO, and with pre-cu SWG i became fully hooked on the genre in the way i personaly feel it's about the journeyi as a player creat, where these day's all people seem to depend on is game feature's, kinda the reason why i thought you where new seeing how you spoke of the game.

And nope i aint a fanboy, also never was looking forward to AoC, did get into OB due to already a member of Fileplanet, had very bad performance in OB, but still pre-ordered the game, the game as it is now performance wise is very different ....so far....for me compared to the OB,

From OB time till release i kept reading up on AoC so i knew what to expect....atleats the first period of time/lvl's i enter the game.

Regards.

I think you should redefine 'too much emphasis on graphics"

It should be "too much emphasis on MICRO graphics". Watching the avatar in all its details and its  surroundings is beautiful BUT ...

You could NEVER fly over a complete continent like Outland and have breathtaking seamless worlds beneath you and in full control of yourself, your flying mount and landings.

Conan's graphics are on a micro scale.

But is it THAT important that your left eyebrow has more hairs if you control your PvP fighting at a control distance of 15 meter?

No. it is more important you can fight 40 against 40 people over a bridge with no lag...and believable graphics.

I really realy HOPE for the next game designers that avatar graphics and surroundings will not have priority over gameplay and open seamless worlds.

Let this be a lesson for those who want "cool FPS graphics" in a MMORPG.

And BTW the hic-ups from the graphics comes from the "loading data from harddisks". The graphics cards have not very much to do with it in "open PvP".

That's why they use instances in the zones. I don't even think they allow more than 40 or 50 people in the same instance at the moment.

This COULD have been the main reason why suddenly a lot people had less lag and frame drops after open Beta: they simply reduced the number of people in each instance.

Killing off seamless open worlds to have nice eyebrows or tits is a NO NO to me.

Perhaps he played already enough MMO's to see the old hat basics used in Conan underneath the beautiful micro graphics.
