Playing: LoTRO, GW, WAR, and WoW

That's pretty lame that a GM had to come threaten you... even though what you are doing is annoying.. if it's possible and a problem.. then I blame the game design. *shrug* There is no reason a GM should have to come ask someone to stop doing something. Either ban (silly in this case) or fix it on the game end.

Not a retired MMORPG.com mod

Ganking players is lame but it's not the gankers fault for playing FFA PVP the way it's designed. It's the developers fault for not having the common sense to create mechanics to prevent respawn ganking, like a safe timer so the player who is respawning has a reasonable time limit to recoup, regroup, or flee from the PVP area.

Also any developer that allows FFA PVP without level/skill limits to prevent higher level or more powerful skilled players to gank lowbies who are too weak to defend themselves, is stupid and asking for a failed PVP system.

WoW.

if those screenies tell the truth it really is the final drop..

AoC is wowified on all levels now... and hey cant that whiner just change instance... DOH

Have you even played the game?

PvP is a blast.  Yes there are cry babies, but that says something more about the players than it does the game.  75% of all people on the PvP servers should really be on PvE servers.  But the game is still very new.

So this is AoC's idea of PVP? Threats of bans from a GM (with bad grammar) for killing players?

This is very interesting, thank you for sharing this.

you are welcome, good sir.

If they allow ganking, it should come naturally some sort of punishment system as well...why not?  PvP doesn't mean that you can kill without any consequence, it just means you can kill another player.  Adding any sort of consequence mechanic will change PvP for the better.  Sure the kiddies will cry that they have to engage in fair fights, but why not.  Why not strip away any earned honor when doing an unhonorable killing, its merely a consequence but in no way a hinderance to PvP.

Essentially, what I get after reading the first 4 pages of this is the following:

AoC's PvP element needs more refinement in its code, exploits are revealed by those who pounce on such things for bragging rights (gee...big surprise eh?  Kiddies exploiting what's broken and unintended.)  Ok fine, that's to be expected, part of a MMO's growing pains IMO, devs usually assume people are far more mature than they really are and then have to steadily increase automatic policing features.  Give it time, I'm sure this will get addressed by Funcom.

The other thing I see is griefers trying to lamely justify their behavior as something that they should be allowed to do because the game's loopholes allow it, and how dare some authority come in and spoil their fun.  Some things will never change, child behaves in a way to bring on a spanking and then pouts and throws a tantrum about being spanked.  I blame it on 3 generations of parents being afraid of giving their children a good beating when their spoiled brats were in need of it.

So what it boils down to is

1) Give it time, the Devs will address this weakness in their design.  Off hand I'd even suggest you cool your playing time, put in a respectful letter to the company explaining what you hope to see addressed in the next 30 days and that you will shelve the game until you read of such a change being coded to address the matter.  That sort of action will speed up a proactive response a lot more than exchanging words on a 3rd party message board.

2) Players who claim they are "hard core" really aren't, they're in reality that pussy who wishes he could be a bully...otherwise they wouldn't come bitching to a 3rd party board by being slapped down for exploiting a weakness in a system.  Like the delinquent who throws a fit in the courtroom about society making him rob that convience store, its just another lame excuse because they're not adult enough to accept the consequences of their actions.

Money and Sin are a lot alike, the more you got the more you want and you can never have too much.

This is the biggest problems with MMOs in my opinion...the other people. Especially when you take it to PvP. ESPECIALLY especially when you make it FFA and have virtually no rulesets against camping/ganking/whatever. The truth is, those who gank also pay the monthly sub, and they deserve to play it however they want. On the other hand, you can't let them go rampant, because it interferes with the enjoyment of their victims. Both sides are going to have to compromise a bit, and that's the cold hard truth. Both sides who whine about it just make themselves look like spoiled idiots. "Waaaaah they won't stop killing me!" - The person who says this should have made the choice to go to a PvE server in the first place. Not saying ganking/camping/whatever is right, but it's part of the game.
