...from this interview with the lead AoC designer:

"we designed AoC to be a console game from the beginning"

"AoC's combat system has gone through nine iterations throughout Funcom's quest to make it appealing to console users."

so if you're like me in thinking this is still a beta game with all the bugs and is essentially just another unimaginative WOW clone with a Conan theme that was built to rake in as much money as possible, here's your proof direct from the producer's mouth.

ie: the 100% instanced world, the restrictive pathing, the bugs,  the dumbed-down AI, etc are effectively due to splitting their development resources to meet the needs of console players in order to maximise profits over delivering a quality product.

ie: they sold out. i am really glad i cancelled.

Normally, we do not so much look at things as overlook them.

I think it will end up being an excellent console mmorpg, and an average pc mmorpg.

View all problems as challenges. Look upon negativities that arise as opportunities to learn and to grow. Don't run from them, condemn yourself, or bury your burden in saintly silence. You have a problem? Great. More grist for the mill. Rejoice, dive in, and investigate.

Sold out?  Well, if you feel betrayed by Funcom because they are moving into consoles and attempting to grab a bigger slice of the pie which is online gaming then yeah, they sold out.

I am pleased by this decision to move MMOs to the consoles.  Evolution baby!!  Its only a matter of time till MMOs are on the next gen consoles.  AoC is the first test.  If its a success then expect more to follow.

well from what i understand Microsoft did subsidize them to release it for 360 rather than PS3. Anyway i do not think that affected the game a whole lot the game UI is still very much gear towards the PC. And instance is something funcom decided to do since it was based on AO not because they decided to release for console, as for mob AI it will be always like that for mmo's to keep overhead low and make the game easy for lvling what do you expect something similar to Half life?

"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin

Um, this was never a secret, I've always known that AOC was going to include a console port, and we'll see more of them in future MMORPG's.  Just can't ignore their huge user base that is just ripe for the picking.

agree 100% with you

strategy games is better for pc while 1st person action is console. This is just the beginning and Funcom is just being honest about what their intention is if it haven't been because of pc we would have the game out earlier. PC is a sucky gaming instrument  if you want fast pace action. Console is built for games. :)

Sorry, but this response is garbage...

The PC is vastly superior for fast-paced action games to the console and always has been. Try reacting with split-second timing and precision aim while jumping around firing your flak cannon midair using a console controller.

The console controller simply cannot match the mouse/keyboard for games... especially for fast-paced action. End of story.

lol @ fps on the consoles with a controller.

Nowadays you can use mouse and keyboard on consoles but it feels funny sitting on a arm chair with keyboard and mouse on your lap, at least for me.

As did driving games using a wheel, until recently when they bought out a steering wheel that sits on your lap.

Consoles, imo are for sport sims, beat-em ups etc
