"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand" - Randy Pausch

Hello all,

Because of all the good things I have been hearing about this game in the forums, I decided to go out and buy VG today at my local Gamestop.  The guy at the casheer was very nice...

Well anyway, if some people could answer a few questions, that would be great (I have no knowledge of VG whatsoever).

- Do I get the first month free?

-which class should I start out as?

-any tips to a new player?

Thanks a lot.

Yes you get 30 days of free play.

I suggest you try the Ranger class. Great damage, can survive pretty well, and ranged combat makes soloing doable for most of the time. Run speed buffs/stealth just make it an all around awesome class. Then again, I'm judging from 5 months ago when I played so perhaps someone more current knows?

My tip would be to find a good guild soon. It's always good in a huge game like VG to have some friends.

Thanks, I'll make sure to try out the ranger.

Anyone know a good server with a nice community and a low level population, (PvE or PvP)?  Also, if I join a PVP server, will I constantly get ganked?

Thanks.

My VG blog:
vgmonologues.net

I would suggest rolling on either Xeth or Seradon as they have the highest population. The PVP server: Sartok has the lowest population, so I wouldn't suggest that server.

Welcome to Vanguard!

Welcome to Vanguard m8

Class wise I would roll what ever class fits your playstyle.  All classes are welcome in groups.  Some solo better than others, but most solo well on normal 2 - 3 dot mobs.

I would roll on the US PvE servers like the poster mentioned above.  Sartok (PvP) population is thin on the ground.  I'm hoping when the trial island comes out Sartok will see a nice increase in population.

Tips:

Pick up a couple of harvesting skills as soon as you can, this will be a major resource for your income.

Remember to carry a stack of deconstruction hammers, as you progress you will pick up alot of loot which cannot be worn but can be deconstructed into dust for crafting.

Do the starter quests for crafting, only takes a few minutes, but you will recieve a nice bag which dusts will be auto placed.  Dusts take up a lot of inventory space you will need it.

I''m opinionated, literate, and a game designer. I''m liable to say something you won''t like.

I last played VG for a month leading up to beta and then a week into release before I decided it was just not the game for me. What has changed for the better since release? What's still total and utter poopie?

Here is a link to the latest review of Vanguard done by Massively.

It contains some pretty good information and gives you an idea of how things are currently.  Note that this was done right before the latest update in which the anti-hitching code was introduced (and the Vanguard community rejoiced).

Monarch of Khrymson ~ Destruction & Order Guild!

Well this is annoying!  Just bought V:SoH from EBay last week as well, got an email today saying that he sold out even though I did a buy-it now!  heh, well at least I'm getting my money back soon!

Maybe it wasn't meant to be!
