If it has levels and questing for xp, it sux!

I can't stand linear games..

Go here, do this, now do that, now go here, now go there, now do this, now do that.....

Bring back true sandbox games where you do whatever the hell you want and still advance.....and no you dont need combat levels either!

Dude, if you've got the balls for it, go do whatever you want. No one is stopping you.

I agree that this linearity is what's stifling MMO progression on many levels, especially for the player experience. To me sandbox doesn't mean content absent. To me sandbox means content for all sorts of experiences. Imagine a game where you slay the dragon and that dragon is no more. You have his head mounted, his skin made into a ceremonial armor set, and the other bits of bone are carved into hilts for all your friends who helped (along with the remaining skin for armor for them as well). No other player can slay that dragon, ever. No more static dungeons. No more static spawns. The world evolves, NPCs grow and die, and get replaced by other NPCs. Then the NPCs adapt to your actions, and even grow stronger when they survive. NPCs that can attack each other and other players in self-organizing armies. Then again, maybe I'm nuts.

You truely dont understand what a sandbox game really is.....  AoC is a linear progression game like WoW, and EQ2 (and 95% of all mmorpgs).. its linear because not only is your gameplay directed from zone to zone but also because it has levels, as in first you are level one, then you are level2, next is level 3, and so on..'

True sandbox games dont even have combat levels like SWG pre-cu where your skills are relied upon more than a combat level multiplier....

No you are not nuts!!!  What you have described is what all morpgs should be, a living world. The problem is that mmorpgs are very expensive to make and when you are done you have to be able to sell lots of copies of the game, some feel as if sandbox games are a hugh risk on their investment, and when you add to the mix "outside investors" well, its safer to stick with what sells,

I'm sad for you.

That said, your thread should be in the General Forums of the board, not in the AoC Forums specififcally. *shrug* Unless of course there's a hidden agenda behind your post, but I really don't think that's the case.

I do admit though, it's almost fun to listen to the people promoting these games. Partly I think because they have such a religious zeal to them. "TRUE Sandbox", "TRUE Freedom", "SKILLBASED". It sounds kind of like worship in many cases.

I would suggest you check out Darkfall Online though. At least they promise nearly everything you want.
