I am getting ready to dive in both feet first with this game as I have read MANY positive things in this forum.  I have read all the classes and races and want to roll a Goblin Psonicist.  I don't know why but I am just intrigued by that race and class...Anyone ever play a Psonicist?  In the game notes it states that it is a tough class to play but played right is powerful and challenging.  I know a Goblin isn't the best race for this class but I like ugly Goblins I guess ;)

So, can someone who has played this class extensively help me out?  Also, can they solo decent?  I am sick of hearing that necros and disciples for soloing.  Lastly, are monks fun?  Can they solo decent?

Thank you in advance for the help!

I don't know if you realize it or not, but each class is only available to certain races. At least that's how it was when I played.

That being said, I loved the Monk class. It's alot of fun and will be great at soloing. Plus the animations are pretty cool. I always liked the Monk's staff animations.

"Yesterday is history, Tomorrow a mystery, and today is a gift"

Psi  is a fun class. Kinda fun to be able to mez and explode the mobs, and high dps

But, they wear cloth, so if you get hit, you get hit hard. So root and snare alot

I am liking the Ranger. The Ranger in VG is the best implemantion of a ranger class in any game

I have played this class since launch and have loved it.  It is solo'able, just tougher.. ultimately you can snare kite or charm tank.  The Psi is the undisputed master of crowd control and mana management, so they are group and raid friendly.  In fact, I can think of at least two APW bosses that are nearly impossible to do without a Psi.

GU5 was very friendly to the Psi class.  SOE is going through each and every class (every one was broke at launch) and the Psi turn came up in in GU5.  I'm now playing my Psi the way it was meant to be and in addition to improving crowd control abilities, our DPS is now on par with some other caster classes.

Finally, I picked High-Elf for my Psi so I could use the Arcane Balance racial.  I can't remember the Goblin racial off-hand so I can't say if that racial would be good for a Psi or not.

Finally, as you level you'll find yourself faced with many gear a specificiation questions.  You could work towards intelligence and spell focus/damage etc. and try to ramp up a DPS spec.  Or, you could go for Wisdom and mana bonuses and maximize that mana pool.  Or you focus on spell accuracy and counterspelling as a Psi is probably the best counterspell class in the game.  Ultimately, for the latter, I keep two sets of gear depending on the situation.  Counterspelling is often over-looked but can be the make or break difference in tough fights.

Love the class. :)

Pimp smackin dem breezes.

well i played a psionist and i can say you will need a group unless they have changed it dramatically since the last time i played. and trying to find a group depends on what time you can play because there isnt a 24/7 round the clock community to join up with as some would have you to believe in these forums. just all the people who play all got together and said we will log on a X time and they say oh my god what a community there is people everywhere. haha no

WOW!  Thank you all for the input!   I am so happy to finally be talking to mature people with some real insight- VERY refreshing.  It is my understanding that the game community inside Vanguard is much the same.  I don't think I've been this excited to play a game since Morrowind :)

Thanks again and I look forward to crossing paths will all of you in Vanguard!

Wrong..the monk class is not great at soloing. You mean the disciple because the monk does not even come close to the great soloing classes of  VG.

In VG their is soloing and their is SOLOING,the monk fits into the soloing category.

I do not know how did you play the psionicist but it's one of the classes that doesn't require a group to level up. Psionicist can actually solo 4 dotters with ease. Has invisiblity, speed buffs, root spells, 3 different messmerize spells, lots of aoe's, instant teleport to nearest town, lots of dots, critical spell reactions with heavy damage, counterspells... etc

REALITY CHECK
