It's probably just me.

Maybe Spring is the wrong time of the year to start playing a new MMO (as an aside... weird how most of them launch in the Spring regardless) with al this good weather out there pulling me away from the computer.

Or maybe I'm just in a funk.

All I know is that despite the fact my computer runs Conan beautifully in all its glory (on Vista no less!) I like the storyline and the variety and innovation of quests (loved the one where I had to climb this tower to get an item for some dude), the collision detections, the active combat system... even love the decapitations, gore and the perky, nubile, trash-talking wenches all around, I still find myself only able to take the game in small doses... and worst of all, it doesn't "feel" like an MMO at all... if you know what I mean.

Massive: ... I guess... maybe... just doesn't feel that way. I feel "guided" through the zones on narrow paths and despite having this totally cool ability to climb, I can only use it when I'm allowed at designated climbing spots. I understand "lag control" and the desireability to instance some areas (like auction houses for example) but this feels like they went way too far. I hate to say it because it's not really fair to compare AOC to it but Guild Wars is what this feels like...yes it's much better in oh so many ways, but there you have it... that's how it feels to me. I want to roam, explore...but they won't let me.

Multiplayer: ... I hate being forced to group (well... forced to do anything really) and until AoC I didn't realize that the opposite can also be a problem... and it's not just 1-20 and the Tortage night quests. I assume there will come a point, somewhere, sometime where grouping will be required and things like aggro-management will matter. If so, it would be nice to get a taste of it early on 'cause the Pict or other alledgedly group quests around Tortage are ridiculously easy to solo. This is totally unlike any other MMO I've ever played where there is usually at least a few token must-group quest early on just to introduce the mechanics and heck, just to get you out there making friends and enemies, And no, it isn't just a matter of finding a guild: guilds are just another chat channel where you can talk to friends while you all go about doing your own separate things...or maybe even the same solo thing but on different shards. Think solo-friendly extreme.

Online: No question... can't play while they patch just like in any other MMO.

I'm really, really trying to like this game because I love a ton of the new creative and innovative things they've done but I'm having such a hard time spending time there.

Like I said, it's probably just me.

Not trying to bash you, but Tortage is meant to take 1-2 days to complete in a more guided fashion to get used to the game, then you move onto literally the largest MMO world I have ever seen. Theres TONS of group quests in noob zone, have you looked for them? have you tried to group?

The open world is massive...and i mean MASSIVE

I have played EVERY MMO
Playing: SHADOWBANE - WARHAMMER - UO - WoW
Waiting for: STRAY BULLET GAMES PROJECT, BETHESDA MMO, DARKFALL Aion, Warhammer, GW2..
RIP: Earth and Beyond, Mythica, Middle-Earth Online

welcome to the world of post-warcraft

Every game is soloable now ... At least mostly.

The good news is, there are plenty of non-soloable parts later on for those who would enjoy the challenge. Elite mobs are NOT soloable unless you outlevel them substantially. Elite dungeons are definitely not soloable ...

Got a Demo and a Barbarian both in their late 20's so yes, I have been away from Tortage and sorry, no, it doesn't feel massive in any way. Massive to me is the openness of Asheron's Call, LOTRO, Dark Age of Camelot...huge zones with hundreds of people in the zones. I guess it's a relative thing.

And yes, I have grouped whenevre I've found others willing to do so nearby on my shard but I have yet to feel like I needed to or even begun to get a feel for any group mechanics... it's more like soloing together than grouping. It's the best way I can describe it.

Celebrating my tenth year of online gaming...gawd I need a life...=P

So you don't like to be 'forced' to group but complain cause you don't hafta group? Makes no friggen sence.

I have a few in the 20s n have been grouping alot. Reguardless of some will say, there is some quests that do require you to group to kill a boss. Cause a solo cannot do so. Obviously you have not done all that many quests to make your claim.

N you can't explore? Tho there is many paths laid out for you...you can also find shortcuts n open areas...if you really wanna explore.

N don't complain about the guilds...AoC does not make the guilds or how they behave. If you are in a guild that does nothing together...then that is your own problem. Find a guild that does work together.
