ok this is beyond dumb.  I just started trying to do a quest in a dungeon called the cistern.  In all their wisdom funcom decided to make this dungeon non instanced and shared.  Even better the bosses drop blue loot that is tradable...

So not only do people doing quests have to compete for the bosses to kill for quest but you gotta compete with people farming.  I just spent 2-3 hours in there looking for bosses and we finally decide to just camp on.  So we are litterally there for over an hour waiting.   A couple people decide they need to go afk.  So while we are waiting a couple lvl 67 people come in with a huge train and seeing us they run all the mobs into the hallway where we are.  There was absolutely NO reason to do this at all.  They stand there dancing around and crap till the mobs start attacking us and they wiped most of the group.  the afk ones were stealthed and survived.  So then the boss pops and the lvl 67 guys kill it.

So this is a GREAT example of how NOT to design things.  As we were in there there were several high lvl people, like lvl 80s runnign around and then at least a couple lvl 67-68 groups.  Basically making this dungeon a complete waste for level appropriate people trying to do quests...

Oh this by the way is on a non pvp server.  God help you guys on a pvp server...

That sounds JUST like FFXI pre the MPK patch.

Whats an MPK?

Monster Player kill

what you just experianced.

Its so sad that people don't check out other MMO's problems before they make their own and repeat an issue that has already been solved YEARS ago by someone else.

Wow way to go Funcom!

PvP or PvE server ? usually training mobs is griefing and worth a /petition. On PvP server its probably your own fault to camp and go afk there.

On a pvp server it wouldn't be an issue.  A group of low 50s people will not survive attack by lvl 67 people...  And even if it was possible they would just bring a train with them since the mobs don't hurt them so on pvp it wouldn't even be an issue because we would not have been permitted to even go into the dungeon.

i personally like contested dungeons with nameds that drop good equip. but when devs decide to require these nameds as questupdates for basic quests that everyone has to do that will gnerate problems.

it took eq2 devs quite long to learn this lession too, but finally they got the point to either let the placeholders update the quests too, or mkae the nameds for quests seperate nameds that automatically pop when someoen with quest gets there (these autopop nameds should not drop loot or else someone will probably find a way to exploit hat mechanic).

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic

Sounds fun thats just the type of stuff I liked about FF11, and its great that they make some dungeons open and some instanced.

"A world which has to create its own justice is a world without hope."

Public dungeons have both pros and cons.  I like them because they feel immersive, but then again, scenarios like OP described have it's drawbacks.

Sure they do!   Go play Everquest.   That sounds like a run through BB... ahh, the trains I've seen, peopel bunched up against the zone point, people zoning in to die... the horror of it all.

I thought AoC was a Next Gen game?

Wow, your experience was a bit different than mine.  After entering the cistern dungeon, the moment any combat appears on my screen my framerate floors to 1.  Grouping here was the single worst experience I have ever had on an MMO, the only time I was even able to move freely was during the camping sessions you mentioned.  I typically run between 10 fps and 30 fps depending on the situation, with medium settings tweaked to remove shadows, reflections, and lower viewing distance.
