I'm not looking to start a flame war but I just want an honest opinion on the game. I could never get into WoW and I miss the feeling of enjoyment I got when I played EQ. I just want to ask if AoC could possibly fill that void or games like WAR when they are released?   Iknow flamers and fanbois will make replies on this topic but I hope I can weed out the real reviews.

P.S. Could I get some advice on parts to build my own computer gaming rig for about $1000 to $1200?

It's a really good game, with amazing graphics and sound. Melee combat is really nice.
A dual core with a minimum of 3 Ghz, 8800 GT(s) graphic card and 2 GB memory is
recommended for medium settings in the game.

I would say to focus on building your new rig first. Take a look at newegg.com.

If you can wait, wait for the buddy keys to be activated and someone here may help you out....mine is already spoken for.

I really like this game alot. Yes, there are alot of instances for epic quests and some regular quests. Some are up to you...solo instance or open instance. The combat is somewhat of a clickfest. But, strategy is involved. You have to keep an eye on opponents shielding. Keep an eye on your own shielding.

Combat is involved....no clicky while reading a book, etc. Linear? Eh, you can go that way but you don't have to. I have spent alot of my time, for instance, collecting resources to sell to guilds wanting to build their city up. So, there are ways to make an honest buck.

The first 20 levels take place in Tortage. A starter island basically. Blows EQII starter island away big time....and I like EQII alot. Plenty of quests there to get you over level 20 to be honest. Once you reach the mainland, don't get overwhelmed. Do the quest that sent you to the mainland. Ease your way in.

Character advancement is really nice, in my estimation. Not only are there skills, but there are feats (similar to WoW...and yes, I like WoW, too). And the combos are not rediculously numerous.

Many detractors and very vocal. I don't know what's up their ass but I really like the game. Every game has it's haters. I tend to look at what each game has going for it. I enjoyed WoW, EQII, SWG, VG, AC, AC2, EvE, EQ and a few others. They all had something to offer the gamer. I think AoC has it's own things to offer the gamer.

Screw newegg. They wouldn't let me return the computer I bought there. And BestBuy was selling the same one for cheaper.

The melee combat is ok for pve, but combos require the player to be standing still to cast (the main part of the combo, not the swings), which would serve as a problem for anything that can move away from you, like people.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic

You can play on highest settings with that.

I try to think, but nothing happens

If you like tons of loading screens, buggy quests, simple game mechanics that don't work or are buggy, having to log off and log back on to keep playing, then this might be the game for you. Crafting blows, mounts blow, the guild cities blow. Combat was fun for me for about 2 weeks and then it just made me want to go play a game where one key press=skill used. The zones are not huge, don't listen to anyone. They aren't as small as some people might have you believe, but when you see a post on the official forums where someone compared the size of the zones to SWG....You just know that people are talking out of their ass. One planet in SWG was bigger than this whole game.

Also have fun traveling in this game, it's like a jogging simulator. No boats, no carriage rides, no instant travel at all which is why so many people will just kill themselves so they can respawn somewhere else.

If you want a game that runs perfectly or has lots of content look elsewhere. AoC has lots of potential but at the moment there are level gaps where you don't get quests.

Half of the stats on items are broken, most classes have broken feats. Areas of the game crash, there is a memory leak problem in 1 of the 2 40-50 zones that will make you ctd every 30 minutes or so. Guild cities are for the most part useless. Trade skills do not currently create items worth wearing and putting gems in an item will make a character unplayable for some or simply make you ctd every time you look at the items stats for others.

That being said I love AoC's combat and pvp. Your skills mean a lot. You can utterly destroy other players if they can't move correctly while fighting. The storyline and quests are mature and fun. Have you ever done a quest where you poison a virgin sacrifice her to a demon then kill the demon who is suffering from the poison? Graphics are beautiful for a game where you can actually move how you please.

Oh yeah and fatalities are awesome. Just don't try and buy it this weekend, your not going to be allowed to create a character until they fix character creation problems.

This is one of my exact setups. On that computer I get 30-40 fps usually on High settings with 4xAA. It sometimes dips to 15-20 fps with lots of players around.
