Playing: AoC, VG:SoH
Played: UO, DAoC, SWG (Pre), WoW, LoTRO, Tabula Rasa, Vangaurd

I actually just built a new machine for my friend so he can play AoC and he can play on High with about 30 - 50 fps and he only spent $688.85 on parts I ordered for him that includes shipping. That is so far under 2K, hahaha I laugh at people who buy pre-manufactured pc's because they don't know what there getting quality wise and they pay a grip because it has the name on it, but the parts are cheap as hell and in some cases they crap out on you just after a year of having it!

yes I seen your point but I think you miss the most obvious point....NO system will last you 3 years,I dont care If you buy it tomorrow for your 1300,I was trying to say I bought mine for a bit less and will run anything out there today but in 3years...I very much doubt it,although you seem very confident yours will.....

Remember 3 years ago we had no duo core's etc so who knows where we will be in 3 years so maybe you should relax a bit on the "advice"

Actually no you couldn't. Loading times are really influenced by CPU power and HD RPM. Considering the amount of complaints about loading time i would recommend a powerful CPU and HD's. RAM only helps after you have loaded.

I'd actually recommend 2 smaller raptor drives (as opposed to the 1 i listed)piped together so that you can read from both at the same time. You should see significantly reduced loading times.

Actually you could. My friend played it on his 1.6ghz intel pentium dc. Quit thinking you've played the game on every rig.

Pats let Manning win.

If all a user needed was a tower, then yes, this is accurate. However, for a user who requires a full solution there are other costs as well. This includes an operating system capable of running Conan, and quality input devices. I'm sure a monitor is necessary as well, and a good 22" can run around $200-350 by itself.
More than likely you can add at least $600 for the aforementioned device and necessary software, and this doesn't include the shipping at the time element of putting it together.
Truthfully, for me, it looks more lucrative to buy an XBox 360 and a HDMI LCDTV/Monitor. Then again it wouldn't be the same, and not as fun.

alright, i'll break my lazzyness...
the original post is telling that with less then 2k you can get a good performance on game, it doesnt mean that with more you will get better benefits... i can set you up a config to make you spend like 5k, actually pretty simple, just add the quad core extreme on that (Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 Yorkfield 3.2GHz LGA 775 136W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80569QX9770 - Retail - U$1470,00)...
So, keep it simple...

It's simple with ALOT of room to grow. That's a tower that with the addition of another video card, 4 more gig of ram and a few more Raptor drives (i think it will fit 5) will last you for 4 or 5 years and remain very competitive.

That's saying alot when you think of how fast these things go out of date. Not to mention that Case will be the last case you ever buy!.

hehe since you started this post, i agree with you.... just disagree with Obiyer... i do believe that some stuff is better to buy the best on on market (like a good tower, the best power source), what pleases you more or what you can affort...

I think we have a different definition of what Play means. I don't like waiting on load screens and i need decent graphics performance. I would think most people would.

actually i think it was just about 2 1/2 years ago that the AMD 4200 hit the market. With a proper build it would still be quite functional today. And i'd say probably even good for another 18 months.

However you are right. I hear they are working on a 32 core processor. But while that is on the horizon i doubt very seriously that the games made in the next 4 years would be able to utilize that type of hardware. Hell very few games are designed for 2 and 4 cores and it's been almost 3 years.

BTW i'd relax on the advice if it were bad. It's not. It's 100% solid. It's not the cheapest and it's not the best. It is good though.
