Personally I would say that the best thing that AoC did was the pre-order headstart.  Having access to the game fully for 10 days for all of 5 bucks, not having to buy the box or pay a sub or anything was perfect.  I was able to get in game and in those 10 days level up to 50 or 51 and see what the game had to offer.

Having seen how few quests there are post 40, how small the zones actually are (they feel larger for a while due to the constant back and forth, but in reality they are not all that big overall), and the absolutely abysmal crafting and resource system I was able to decide that AoC just is not the game for me.....with only $5 cost to myself.

Somehow I doubt devs down the line will offer a similar option as I am sure they'd have liked that extra 50 bucks from me.....one can only hope though.

Behold! Rash of the Itch King comes in November! Quake in fear!

Yeah I agree you shouldn't judge it before you try it. Most likely if you tried you'd be dismissed as a moron. Just don't cross the line and say people can't have an opinion even if they didn't play it. I have an opinion that it's not quite what it was cracked up to be; it's good, but not as good as they promised. Yet I'm still about 90% I'm going to try it the near future. So, would I call the game good or bad?

If I share my opinion I do it not because I'm trying to convince someone to either buy it or not buy it. Even if I did play it and judged it with a review, I would let other people make that choice. Because if I said it wasn't so great and people decided to not buy it, no one could say that I made them make that choice.

Have to agree with many of the comments, I understand the argument of trying the game before you judge it, but it is a fact that there a few pre-requisites to being a person who will like this game.  And if you don't meet those then you will flat out not like AoC, such as hating alot of instance gaming or hating an initial lack of content at the higher levels etc

Also there is the fact that there is no trial for AoC, so people have to fork out a bit of money just to see if they like the game, and a sensible person will way that up against both the negative and positive reviews of the game.

So without actually buying the game you can't actually give it a try, that is the problem with the OPs position, its all very well saying try it before you dismiss the game, but if trying it means actually buying the game then kinda defeats the purpose.

All anyone can do is read reviews on anything they want to purchase, if 50% of people say the game is total crap and 50% say its the best thing since sliced bread then it's probably a gamble and would be probably be best to wait for buddy keys or a trial.

For those sitting on the fence the best option is to wait for buddy keys or wait for a trial, because as most of us know AoC is definitely NOT for everyone its restrictive gameplay means there are people who will just not like it and it's better for them to wait and see before committing further.

I agree with the OP and have read all the posts, I can see some points, but still lean towards what the OP said. Is $50 a lot of money, to some yes to others no. Have you wasted $50 on something other than games in your life, me heck yea I have (movies, food, exgirlfriends.. etc.) I would say its safe to say  everyone has at 1 time or another.

Everyone is entitled to their oinion, thats fine, the thing that boggles my mind is, do people base all their decisions on what other people think?  my point here is just because you like it or hate something does that mean I am going to like or hate it too?

I respect the fact that people are entitled to their opinions.

How about wait instead for free trial ?

You are telling ppl to buy an unfinished product to find that out for themselfs - just so the gaming developer makes more money for a game that is not acceptable for release - Is that good for the MMO comunity ? Dont think so....

ppl can and should be able to make their opinions without paying for them.  Thats why games have free trials and demos.    Saying that ppl should pay $50 to then find out what has already been said many times is a disgrace.   I bet you also support that gamers pay for taking part in betas now...

There is no reason anyone should pay $50 to see wether they like a game or not. It doesn t matter if you can afford t or not, it could be just a waste of money. Anyone saying oh big deal stfu it s only $50 should seriously look at it from other peoples perspective. I can easily afford to dump $50 on it and not worry if i like it or not, but why? It makes no sense whatsoever and i have the patience to wait for a free trial or whatever. That said i m lucky enough to know people that play it and i ve tried the game enough to know i won t buy it:) Anyways no need to pay anything to try a game out IMO.

A lot is to do with people wanting to try the game out now. They think its a race with AoC.
