"Why follow, when you can lead..." |
I've been playing WoW for about three years now. This time includes four 70s (hunteer, druid, shammy, and paladin) and one 40 (rogue). Most of the time WoW has been a great expierence; I've seen the best and worst of people who play MMOs. But now it's time to move, not just to another game, but maybe out of the genre completely. MMOs are great great fun when you have a game that is worth playing. But so many games that come out are just pure and utter crap. I have about a half dozen titles that were released in the last 12 months sitting on my shelf collecting dust. Why? Because they were absoultey horrible. Perhaps I've been spoiled; WoW was my first MMO, but definitely wasn't the only one. I started playing about a year after WoW was released, so fortunately most of the bugs and glitches had been worked out. All I had to do was log on and play a polished game. I was addicted to say the least. See, I come from a table-top, pen&paperg RPG background. When I started playing we didn't have the computer power to play virtual online worlds. All of that has changed now. I feel sorry for the younger generation of gamers who will never know the magic of table-top roleplaying. There is nothing like weaving a heroic story with a group of friends, telling tales of adventure and intrigue, and all together have a blast while doing so. Those memories of adventure and commradarie will never be replaced by MMOs; not matter how long you play, how many epic items you have, no matter what it's all online. Online MMOs do all of the work for you, all you have to do is follow the bouncing ball. Will I play other MMOs? Of course, just not right now. In my opinion the genre is stale at the moment. Until the next big thing comes around (and the next big thing might be an MMO per se) it will remain that way. For now though, I just can't see spending anymore time with MMOs until they break out of the WoW mold. Looks like I need to pick up my Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition and make that dwarven ranger that's been dying to get some play time. Earth |

How you managed to stay for so long? I become bored till death just after 10 months. Many other games have keep me in much longer. |

Our best gaming days are behind us. Games are only getting worse. |
I tend to agree. WOW has been a good game for the almost four years I've played it, but after three level 70's and endless numbers of other toons, I cannot think of anything new to do in that game. It could be that any MMORPG reaches its burnout phase after three or four years. I'm prepping for Warhammer; that should be a pretty good title and decent replacement for WOW. |
