I expected a fun game where I could particiapte in awesome combat and explore new lands. That was it and I am pleased.

You expected a mediocre game, and you admittedly got one. Why are you surprised other people are not in awe of it, or they simply felt the game wasn't as promised? Some people expect more than combat and exploration out of a game that has a required 15 dollar a month price tag. Heck, you can do that in D&L.

The "trolls" get it. You fanbois don't. I am very happy you are easily amused, but some of us aren't.

I am no fanboi and if you read my post history, you would notice that I am as hard on AOC as many "trolls" but, unlike many of them, I have a fair and open mind. I do not expect perfection as many of them do. I did expect more out of the game, I just figured that all of things I did expect would be encompassed by the term "fun". I am not going to waste my time detailing my expectations here.

Is $15 that much? Really? What do you get for $15? Well it bought me a quarter of a steak last night. I got 2 movie tickets for $16 dollars today. I bought three books today that were about $15 each. I have 3 small bags of jelly-Belly's on my desk that were close to $15 total.

$15 a month breaks down to a little less than 50 cents a day. Well damn then - I will skip that Snickers bar tomorrow during my break. $15 doesn't go far anymore and I really do not have that many expectations for anything $15 can get you anymore.

Yes, the game is mediocre. I think WOW and LOTRO and TR and EQ2 are mediocre. Do I think they are worth $15? Nope, not anymore because I am bored with them and they are no longer fun for me. Is Age of Conan worth $15 to me? Sure is because, even in its current state, I find it fun and interesting. Perfect, no. Fun, yes.

And the trolls here "get" nothing beyond their own twisted view of the game. All they desire is the perfect game and they will continually be disappointed. I can't wait for the complaints and comments as to how imperfect WAR, Aion, TCOS and Darkfall will be. They will be disappointed again because those games will launch in a state equal to Age of Conan.

Woah, can t speak for Aion , TCOS, or darkfall, but i can tell you from abeta testers point of view. War is in a better state to release then AOC is now or probably 2-3 months from now. Also on the $15 a month, i agree it s not much, but to pay for IMO an incomplete game is wrong. Would you go to the movies if you could watch half of it now and the rest in a few months? Or would you eat a half eaten steak? I know i wouldn t.

I think what Temp was getting at is the way people hype themselves up for a game that is yet to release only to be let down because the game isnt exactly what they 'imagined' it would be like.

Also a game can be really good in beta, but once it goes live a ton of unexpected crap can happen and cause people to flip out.

True, o agree but the core mechanics are there is all i ll say :) Yes people hype themselves up alot i agree. That said i m pretty confident without getting too excited that WAR is safe :)

Aye, I have played the beta and know what your getting at. But at the same time there will be people who dedicate thier lives and worship at the in development shrine. Testers will know what the game is for what it is, but these people will build a magical game that shares the same 'WAR' name and some of its likeness in thier heads and, come launch, they will be like the kid who learns Santa is really mom and dad and his workshop is nothing more than Walmart.

Heart broken and very jaded.

All I know is that overall i'm still dissapointed in the MMORPG genre due to my unique tastes.  I would love a game where there were no '?' or '!'.  Where the world actually felt dangerous and I felt threatened leaving whatever safety was offered like town squares or market places.  (Almost like New Orleans pre Katrina).

Anyway I still enjoy AoC, but again I wish designers would look outside the box or however you say that cliche term.  If Funcom can pull off the end game that they originally talked about then i'll be very happy.  I look forward to the Chuthululu spin off they are planning but if they go the route of pimping the arena type combat and gear ala WoW I will be very dissapointed.

'?' '!' is the death of my imagination.

Exactly! :) I can't speak for any game in development and even if I could, I wouldn't. No game will launch how the gaming public wants it to be. It will have bugs and issues and things will be missing or broken. To think a game will launch perfectly is to have a delusion of grandeur. So the question is how broken will the game be when it launches. LOTRO? Not broken that much but had a few issues. AOC? Fairly broken. WOW? Fairly broken. Vanguard? VERY broken. All had issues and all got better. Heck, I know a lot of people who say vanguard is a great game now (believe it or not).

Its like movies. Have you ever noticed how big name movies NEVER live up to the hype? go back and read reviews of some big name movies and see how people reacted. I guarantee you will see things like "I was expecting more"; "it wasn't as good as I thought it would be"; "it should have been better".

And you are sitting there going, "people! Did we watch the same movie? I thought it was damn good!". The hype killed the movie; it wasn't that it was a bad movie, it just wasn't what they expected.

As to the "half of a movie/steak" comment: I would be upset since a movie is two hours or a steak is a dinner. But if I play 15 hours a week/60hours a month, that is about 25 cents an hour. I can earn that 15 bucks back quickly - even in a game that isn't finished.

And yep save the quote! :) I will stick buy it.

''Life is what you make of it, not what others make of yours.''

Avery, when I compare your comments and tone pre-launch to post-launch.. I can tell you are dissappointed, and I don't blame you. But you should at least admit it now, the game clearly did not live up to your expectations at all.

This isn't some troll post, this is a post from someone who's been following these forums for quite a while.

This game seriously needs another 3-6 months of development. But I'm not going to be a fool and declare that I'll never play the game again like many have, I'm certainly more than happy to come back to if it improves.

O_o o_O

Although I get the "Try it/Buy it/Fry it" scenarios are a suggestion I dislike the "hint of command" in its suggestion.  I've tried it and decided to keep playing myself.  What I like are the lack of numbered scores.  Didn't see any under my brief skim of that site.

I wish all would leave the score routine.

*sigh* Do we really need more reviews of Aoc now? If we do, just post the links to all of them, the good and bad and let everyone decide for them self, all these threads is just trolling.

Think AoC sounds fun? Buy it..

Unsure? Get a trial key from someone (Will be released anyday now if they havn't already, and if you are unsure you can wait anyways). And try to read a few different reveiws, both + and - ones.

No? Then get something else instead.

And yes, I play AoC. I don't however try to talk the ones who prefer another game into start playing (If you do beleiva a game is the best in the world you should play it, not another one). Also I don't play a lot of other games and I sure as h*ll don't troll their forums with reasons I don't like their game all the time.
