Gamers who use RMT are like athletes who use steroids.

I don't care if it's permanent instancing like dungeons in WoW, or instancing on demand to prevent lag like EQ2 or AoC, or scenario/mission/quest instancing like LoTRO.

If there is any instancing, any at all, I will not play this game. Are you listening Devs?

With PvE raiding it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fauning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privelege. - Neanderthal

Then you probably won't be pl;aying many MMO's in the future.

There is simply too much going on in a large MMO for servers to handle without extreme lag.

So I suggest you buy a console game.

Currently Playing:
AoC
Mass Effect
Civilization 4

I have to comment that I do not believe there will every be a game release that does not use instancing ever again, and if the game claims it doesn't instance, I imagine they will have a similar mechanic that is named different, and probably functions in a slightly different way... but still "instancing" at it's heart.

I don't think it is instancing you despise, just the current implementation of it.

I, for instance, would like a system where the instancing wasn't so obvious, perhaps a silent method for seperating players in such a way that people don't notice that it is happening.

Though I still see the scenario of someone attempting to run into an area to partake of the PvP, only to turn a corner and find an empty room where they expected there to be mass chaos.

Still not too big of a deal so long as they let you hit the orange arrow in the top right corner and let you switch to the other instance. >.>

I have a question, what do you think w ill happen when you walk through the -Stargate- ?

That is pretty much my only question seeing as it will be a giant instance making machine.

Seriously dude, Did you think walking through the stargate was going to be seemless?

Or if they just trick you and make the loading screen look like the vortex, would that work?

Learn the difference between instancing and loading a zone before commenting next time.

I don't have a problem with loading zones, single copies of a geographic area shared by all players.

My rant is about instancing, I even defined it with examples. Geesh.

Would you be so kind as to provide examples of MMO's that do not instance.

I am curious, how do you differintiate between instacing and loading zones and/or sharding which is what I thought you were referring to when you said instanceing.

An example of what I think you are referring to would be EvE-Online.  In EvE if I had the time I could fly to any and every one of the 30,000 - 40,000 players online at any given time.  Even if they are in a "dungeon" I can scan the system and if I have the skills can find them.  Is this what you mean by a game that does not use instances?

So I guess you will not be playing SGW? I am pretty sure that the way things are being talked about in thier forums that it will be something like 80% open and 20% instance, not so sure on my numbers but the word instance has been used.

I believe EVE is still non instanced, it was when I played it. When you fly thru a gate you load a zone aka a star system, but everyone shares the same geographic area. There are not multiple copies of the same geographic area for separate groups of players.

Anytime a specific geographic area exists more than once it is an instance. Old school MMOGs like classic EQ and Horizons didn't employ instancing and I want to play a real MMOG like that again.
