Honestly, I think CCP would shut Eve down first rather than dumb down the game.

As far as the 14 day trials goes, CCP has been offering this for a long time now. They know they have a niche market game and takes a little time to learn and get into so some extra free time is a huge help to new players. It's too bad other mmo makers out there only offer 7 days or less.

But I guess the fact that Eve is the only mmo out there other than WoW that has grown every year in population. Just wait til the Ambulation expansion hits later this year and the population will grow even more again.

It is all vaporware until I see it go live!

Lordmonkus saved me a lot of time as he was spot on in his detailed reply.  But this one here is the most relevant.

EVE is all about the risk vs the reward.  You cannot turn it into today's "no risk" pvp games or it completely loses its appeal to the current fan base.

That's the whole point, PVP isn't supposed to be easy, carefree and repetitive, its supposed to be carefully thought out and engagement should only occur when the risk equals the reward.  (much as in real life combat actually)

Its a totally different way to look at PVP, and should not be trifled with in order to draw in WOW like sub numbers (say hello the SWG -NGE please)

OP might not like EVE the way it is, but those who currently play it do, and wouldn't have it radically altered from its current state.

Truth is, CCP has incorporated many user friendly features since the game started (OP seems to be unware of them) such as clones to prevent SP loss, insurance to take some of the sting out off ship loss, and variety of other things that makes it possible for some player to go months, if not years w/o a significant ship loss. (you have to fly smart and safe to make it happen though)

Many CCP employees have played swg..they won't do the same fault as soe did.

They will not dumb down the game. Actually, i see it getting more complicated with the sovereignity changes in the work.

220k account with an active sub is the latest number, not including trials.

Really takes me seconds to travel through a gate now, you must have left before they fixed the old take 4 minuites to get close enough to a gate to warp through it.

This game was my very first MMO ever 3 years ago, and I love playing it… But, due to the HIGH skill level grind this game offers I just can’t do it anymore. CCP made the stupid skill level in real time which I think is stupid, then to top it off if you get pod killed, you lose some skill points…. GREAT!!  Ideal to the idiot that came up with that one.
Taking 7 months to train to fly a ship or more just to lose some skill points is just awesome, you can however clone but that’s  even more money to dish out, another great ideal from CCP. Then there’s the mining, another grind… the reason why there are carebaers is because of the poor maniacs of the game, there would be more people doing more PVP in this game if they reduce the risk level to close to zero.
This is how to improve this game in order to bring in millions of players to have fun:
1.       Kill the idea of this being a hobby experience and make it less risky to build ships and engage in more PVP.
2.       Make rare ore like Omber, Kernite, Jaspet, Hemorphite, Hedbergite, Gneiss Dark Ochre Crokite Spodumain Bistot Arkanor Mercoxit  everywhere so that the risk of building ships less of a burden so that Care bears don't cry and jump up and down mad.
3.       All skill levels are no reduced to a maximum of 2 days or less at skill level 5.
4.       Get rid of the single skill training to one each crap, and replace it with a three skill training step at the same time.
5.       Get rid of the clone and  pod killed system and leave in the ship kill feature as it already is,  so you don’t lose your skill points.
6.       Give mining ships more survivability chances to fight back against player rats, and NPC rats, by increasing their shield strengths when attacked, and giving them a powerful gun to fight with on top of their minging lasers.
These small updates will make the game more fun and willing to make players do more PVP in this game.

1. Cant comment on this as its more an aspiration than a idea.

2. Ok why would this be done in most other MMO's [the ones with mining]  the rarer ore's are ahrder to get to as they are worth more, why not just abolish all asteroid types and repalce them with just one type that gives all Mineral types

3. Err ok on its own it sound at best Dubiouse [till you read point 4].

4. Ok this i would also like tho id probably make it 2 choices instead of 3. But this and what you sujest in sujestion 3 just makes the skill system too carebear. There is meant to be some progression with skill learning more important or advanced skills should take longer.

5. This just removes most of what makes EvE PvP so great and Heart pounding.

6. They already have the ability to defend themselves with there own guns [both mounted guns and combat drones]. And you can also increas survivabilaty by fitting the right modules to amke it harder to get killed fast. Also ahve a friend nearby with a combat ship too would help.

After reading your sujestions it sounds like EvE isant really your type of game. You want a game where the PvP is safe and convenient you wont find that in EvE but games like WoW or Everquest 2 might suite your tastes better.

fly tech 1 fit cheap insure your ship, go PvP.

you WILL LOSE YOUR SHIP. it's part of the game. however you dont' lose your charatcer and once ambulation is out I think players might be able to figure this out beter.
that siad I haven't lost my logtisics ship in 5 months.

If you get podded without a clone you lose SP thus why you need a clone.

Aside from this I agree with the OP's stance on skill training. Sometimes waiting a month to have fun is so damn annoying.

Games I've played:
AoC, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, LoTRO, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars, Star Wars Galaxies, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H.

Oh look, another "omg boohoo this game is too hard/makes me think to hard/to complex for me, therefore you should make it stupid easy to play and turn it into what I want to play, and screw the people who like it like it is" thread.

Here's the similar concept for wow:

- They need to make it so you start at max level, make all pve insta kill 1 shots, give everyone unlimited money, and everyone starts with every epic gear there is, oh and you can instantly travel from any point to any point in the game at will. Oh and the AI should do everything for you so you can just sit back and not have to do anything yourself, including any pvp.

FUN is not grinding for weeks on end setting your skills and then logging off for 3-5 days until they finish.... FUN is not HIGH risk on the ship that took almost a week to get all the goods then having it be destroyed by a player pirate or some thing.

FUN is taking less time to build your ship and leveling your skills then going out and beating the living Sh*t outta someone, when you build another ship a go after his ass, for killing you because that ship cost alot of isk, but didn't really mean much because you build ten more with little risk.

FUN is PVP... that what CCP always make statements about less people really want to do it because. Who cares about the economy, it's all about getting the most fun outta fighting another player in the ship you build with as little risk as possible.

what you want from the game is not what i want from the game. vote with your wallet, thats what i do.

i want the paranoia.

i want a complex economy.

i want pvp by economics.

i want wars to be won by supply chain management.
