Three servents come out carrying a throne with King Mike sitting. They then gently place the throne down* Thank you my servents, please take the rest of the day off, as you have served me well. Now, gaming community, lend me your ears! A hush falls over the large group of gamers. What we are discussing today is a major issue in MMOs today, and a fear of what may be the future. The crowd murmurs a bit, and sits on the edge of their seats to find out what the great King Mike has to say next. Today, we will be discussing two major issues of MMOs today, which seam to be a threat to the land an MMOs as we love them: Uncompleted games. The crowd yells and screams. You can hear babies (noobs) crying in the backround. Fights break out from the utter tension of even bringing up this dreadful subject. SILENCE! Silence, my beloved gamers. The crowd begins to settle down, King Mike then continues on with his speech. I am afraid these issues are even worse then when our MMO kingdom was attacked by a thousand trojans, making our computers break down. People begin to slowly tear, as they remember how their characters were unable to be played. They can only remember how many great computers were lost from that tragic disaster from four internet explorers ago. I shall begin with uncompleted games. Several screams from the crowd can be heard. I know, I know, it is truely a dreadful issue, but it is something that must be discussed. A thousand internets ago, we can all recall a game named Vanguard. It was a dreadful launch, but people still fell into the hype syndrom, a terrible desease when a game is wanted so badly. Mothers break out and cry, as they remember their poor children when they had that terrible desease. Sure, some made it, but many did not. Many people were ripped off from their beautiful green paper, or as we call it money. This angered many, and they swore never to pre order again. But then Age of Conan came around..People begin yelling in anger. One man yells "Screw FC, with their instances and incomplete game!" Calm down, my gamers. Please relaxe yourselves, you must try to bear with me as I speak. The crowd understands their King's orders, and begin to listen as King Mike II continues his speech. The people who swore they would never pre order have pre ordered, once again going back on their word. But, who can blame us. We all have been waiting for so long for that special game, and no one could bear to wait any longer, with the agonizing pain and torture without a game to play! The crowd nods. Then people open their boxes and begin to play. They play for several days, and they love it, but after a while they grow hateful. They realize that a good amount of the content isn't even in the game, which was promised by the devils over at Funcom. They crowd is angered. People feel ripped off by purchasing unfinshed games. WE, the community, must stop falling into the hype and purchasing the incomplete games! We must somehow make it clear to the developers that releasing unfinshed game is a bad thing! I shall not let this kind of thing happen to my kingdom of gamers again. When successful launches happen with incomplete games, it sends a message to some developers that it is okay to do the same thing. We, as the gamers, must stop purchasing unfinished games! Amen! Amen! Yells the crowd. One man yell "Speak on King Mike II, speak your wisdom!!" another yells "You're entirely correct, and good looking too!" Purchasing unfinished games is a bad thing for the genre, and I shall never let another disaster like this happen to my beloved kingdom again! Thank you, my gamers, Ifor my speach is complete. Heed my words my beloved gamers, for if you do not, you will continue to fall into the hype for years to come. The crowd cheers and King Mike II was off the stage. He then stares back, looks at the great, yet fragile, community of MMO gamers and walks into his palace. He shall continue spreading his wisdom until the day he dies. |

Google "MMORPGMaker" if you want to make your own MMORPG. |
When EQ2 released, it had a lot of design problems. After a while they revamped a lot of the features, adn greatly improved gameplay. There is no doubt that the devs would never have been able to do this before release, because they would never have had the time, money, or the feed back from paying customers in order to make the changes. However, it's hard to capture the excitement once the new game smell has worn off. Sure, a year after release it's a much better game, but it's also a year old, if you know what I mean. It's rare these days to see a solid release. Hopefully WAR will have a decent release, at least no game stopping bugs, and MOST of the features fully implemented. We shall see. |

Bravo, well said. I for one have stopped pre-ordering games, and won't generally try them out till they've been out awhile. |

Haha. I was kept well entertained by this speech. Well said, King Mike, well said... Though, Aion, to me, looks like it will probably have one of the most polished launches. |

$oE , destroying MMO since 1999. |
Worse are the players who will continue to tell you the game is great even if it's bugged or doesn't run.
"Seems fine for me." "No problems here." "It will get better." "This is only the first month." "They will patch it soon(tm)." "WoW's release had problems too." "You're a hater." |

I dunno with EQ2 I prefered the initial goal set for the game and it's like they gave up and decided to turn it into WOW and even you can tell this via the art style the changed the game too and I think it just end sup looking like such a bad generic fantasty game. When I saw EQ2 at E3 2002 and 2003 I thought it looked fantastic and looked like a real online world and big open trading and market areas to socalize and I just loved the realistic look of the game and the armor and clothes looked sooo good too and Humans actually looked pretty unlike the ugly drugged up state they're in now. Then I got to play the game in 2004 it;s like what happened? The graphics got turned to crap and all of a sudden it was instanced to fuck and that instantlly kills the online world feel. It had hardly any of the feautres put in that would make it good and everything they were talking about like being able to choose your path as you advance was watered down into a simple archetype tree which you were locked in to and didn't work well at all because you couldn't see if you liked the class until like level 30 when you had 10 levels to play with it since 20. Then they decided to turn it into WOW giving it WOW styled graphics which the artwork just ended up sooo poor in the game and looking very bad on that plastic engine. They decided to dumb all the game down and go for a different goal of copy WOW as much as we can like in SWG and now Vanguard they're doing it to.
If they stuck with the first goals of the game and didn't instance it all up then EQ2 could have ben such a great game but instead SOE showed they have no talent what so ever once again and I just wish they got rid of that twat face Smedley. |
