funcom wouldn't be able to make expansions or update the graphics if the game was a failure.

Sure, at its release, it bombed. But its made up for that.

And even though I know it probably won't happen, having some new character models/animations along with a new look to the combat system (Without really slaughtering or changing it completely.) would be great.

Anything to give it more Eye candy.

Indeed! I played AO when it first came out, although there were many flaws it turned out really REALLY well. It is not at all fair to compare AO with more modern games, that is a fact. And just as Kilmar said, I would also play it again if a sequel came out.

If they made AO2 I would play it in a heart beat, so long as it meets 3 personal requirements:

1) Shadowlands was a bad dream and never happened.

2) There was more focus on the story of Clan vs Omni (it sorta died out thanks to Shadowlands....)

3) Gaute had no say in the game and they put out a restraining order to keep him 300ft away from the game at all times (he gave us Shadowlands)

That won't happen.  Shadowlands is the core of the game from a story point now, clan/omni/human are just the babies/descendants to come along in the past few millenia and each update is integrating Shadowlands deeper and deeper into the game and Rubi-Ka.

First off, let me start out with saying I haven't played AO in a few years. I was in Beta, and I was playing on release.

Release was absolutely abysmal, and was just about unplayable...and enough to make me quit after a few months. Eventually, however, I went back...and stayed there for a few years.

I was able to appreciate coming back after some time off, and finding out how the game had improved. And yes, while it is old as of 2008, there is still *a lot* of fun to be had. 1 week, IMHO, isn't really enough time to figure out if ANY game is 'fun'; you've barely figured out the controls, and you have no idea as to what comes past your beginning levels.

Hell, if I had gone by that mindet 'way back in the day', I'd have never even made it past a MOO, MUD, MUSH, or EQ.

Mind you, OP, this isn't a slam on you, by any means. Just a response:)

I do still play it and it is still fun and it has a great community, much better than any other game that I've come across recently.  I don't care about the graphics in the least, I'm just hoping that the new upgrades fix the lag problems (which are bad sometimes).

People who have to have mindless eye candy really don't impress me at all.

Sadly Cephus a good majority of new ( and especially younger) mmo gamers lack the attention span or willpower to understand mmo depth. What I love is if you go to any ventrilo server in World of Warcraft, a good majority of the people you hear are young voiced kids or older adults who have never really touched the surface of other MMORPGs. You join a voice chat in AO or EQ2, it is usually a very mature community because these are the people who had the patience to understand that depth of gameplay is more valuable than eyecandy, purple lewtz and zomg 500 raid bosses down server first!. What I love about AO and EQ2 at the heart of things is the fact that it drives people like that off. EQ2s depth has scared off many people I know who have tried :).

so i got the 30 day free gameplay + 700 paid pts offer too.. and i gladly accepted it since my holidays started. i must say they changed a lot in the 7 months ive been away, my 220 enf feels a bit gimpy for not having the latest highend nanos and ive been patching and assorting my shortcut bars for ages but it feels good to play and explore it a bit like a newbie ^_^
