In the past couple of weeks I have been considering checking out vanguard (They REALLY need a trial by the way). I have watched a few movies of it on you tube and done a good deal of research. My question is this. From watching the vids it looks like the combat is very similiar to EQ2. I played EQ2 and enjoyed it but I don't want to play EQ2-2 if you know what I mean. Does it play a lot like EQ2?
Thanks |

Well i think you will find in most MMORPG'S combat is pretty similar as in you will be repetitivly hitting buttons in your hotbar. In Vanguards case i think you will find it a little more interesting, they have finisher moves counter-attacks and so forth which are triggered by critical hits or a parry/block, once a finisher or counter has been activated you have a time limit which is pretty short to press the button allocated to that move or else it wont activate. Personally i think it adds another layer of complextity which helps to keep the combat less static than the norm it keeps you on your toes in a sense. Hope my post has helped hope to see you in Vanguard soon!. |

couple other things that are kinda similar but different are the combat wheel in eq2 has been replaced with a weakness system. One class can create a weakness that other classes can exploit to do addition damage. Endurance in vanguard is more like wow then eq2. In eq2 endurance is kinda like mana you use it till you run out. In vanguard endurance replentishes in battle quickly and the pool is quite tiny. So you need to factor that into deciding what abilities to use. So in vanguard combat goes do an attack, do another attack, crit, do a finisher or which you have several choices, or maybe you have a counter attack, or maybe your defensive target is being attacked and you have an defensive attack option available. So unlike eq2 where you pretty much run through all your attacks and they wait for the cooldown to finish to hit the next one. In vanguard you frequently have to decide which attack you are going to use based on how much endurance you have, what finishers, counters, defensive attacks are available and also sometimes the position of the mob and what effect you want to place on the mob. If you are in a group you also need to think about weaknesses and other group members. For example maybe a certain attack creates a weakness the ranger can exploit. It might be a good idea to use that attack frequently to keep that weakness up on the mob? Casters also have finishers, but another unique one is counter spelling. Casters will sometimes see what spell the mob is caster. So for example if you are fighting a hard mob that can heal casters might see the healing spell being cast and then they can counter spell it which prevents that spell from working and provides the caster with extra endurance or energy for more spells. |

Not sure about a trial, but you can pick up the game for around $4 on ebay (including shipping). |

theres buddy keys. and ya it plays a LOT like EQ2. I think casters can learn spells from certain mobs also? (is this correct? I dont play a caster) |
